Sharpening Hooks

Happy New Year All!

Just curious what method everyone uses to sharpen their hooks. I've become a fanatic in sharpening my bucktail everytime I catch a fish while fluking. It really makes a difference in the number of hookups :D . My hook sharpener was a small device with two round files held together in a plastic holder that you ran the hook down, but it has bitten the dust (rusted beyond repair) and I'm looking for feedback on the best hook sharpening method out there (stone vs ceramic vs?)

you would never believe it...but i use nailfile emery boards...two sides...super cheap...lightweight and flat...fits anywhere... :cool:

Your twin filer was the best tool I've come across. Get another or read on for what others have done.

Go to Home deot or other large hardware store and buy 2 chain saw files...mine came in a (2 pack) and tape them tightly together.

You can get fancier and break them to size...and or stick them in blocks of plastic or wood....but it's the side by side togetherness that's important.

Don't have a problem with standard hooks, but circles are a pain in the a$$ to sharpen.

Ditto to Capt Scott's chain saw files. By the
way Capt Scott I may have to take a trip back
up to Stewart Alaska to get the file I told
you about that had two chain saw files attached
as one. I have not been able to locate any
around here.
