got a call from my dad at 10 am this morning. he's retired for a week now, spending his time fishing and staying at the shore house. well he snags a bunker, at the 8th st. jetty in avalon, lops off the the tail pitches it back out and after a 25 minute fight on 17lb test line. lands a 47 and 1/2", 40 lb striper, confirmed at by the hodge podge, supposedlty biggest this year. i see his retirement is off to a good start. his fish of a lifetime

I never saw anything that big caught at the 8th st. jetty.
I know one fish doesn't make a season (except for the person who caught it). But, it seems like this year is shaping up to be a good one.

Hey a**hole. Why don't you post the exact rock he was standing on? Jesus, you even told which side it was on.
For christ's sake, its bad enough the foreigners have taken the place over and kill every skate, dogfish and short bass they land, but now every idiot with a snag hook is going to descend upon those rocks and make it otherwise unfishable.
The only solace is that most of those morons can only find big bass when a school of bunker moves in and makes catching cows easier than catching bluefish.

don't start with the "spot" issue...
there are rock jetties all over the coast and it just so happens that there were bunker there, a fisherman savy enough to snag one, and one bass that was hungry. Good karma if you ask me.
there are millions of people at the "shore" enjoying themselves and when someone is in your "spot", don't assume they read about it on the Barn.
And since I am on a roll, cut out the "asshole" comments...the guy was giving an honest report because he was excited for his Pop...geeeze.

we are suppose to be helping each other out... it seems like every time i come on here people are fighting over dumb stupid issues... i think that spot issue is bs... if someone wants to tell someone where they caught a fish let them tell....

listen here jerkoff, if you think that the 8th street jetty is a secret spot, your a retart. how friggen long is that jetty? every single bait shop in avalon and sea isle direct there customers there. how do you think we found it. we went to a bait shop and asked. stripers are caught in the ocean, hard to believe i know. as far as this spot burning thing, i have no problem telling some one where i caught a fish. if some one told "me" there spot. then i wouldnt tell. but if iam standing on a "public" jetty, with no guidance from anyone and caught a fish i would say where i caught it. and if you think that every swinging d&^% that was there that day didnt pass that info on then your really retarded, i guess the barnegate ridge, myers hole, paddy's hole, they all must be secret spots as well huh? drop your c$#@ and grab your socks and go fish,

Amatuer hour in the striped bass forum. Boat spots ae a hell of a lot different than shore spots moron. If you knew anything about striped bass fishing you'd know you don't put exact spots on the internet. The street and side of the jetty? Give me a break.
Most guys worth their salt on this site don't even post reports anymore because they don't want a chance over crowding with idiots. Lots of spots were ruined by crowds thanks to internet boards. 9th street causeway bridges you used to be able to fish until hordes of pink zoom tossing idiots flooded the bridges to the point cops stopped asking people to leave and started ticketing them, whereas they used to let one or two guys be up there. That is a very well known spot, your right, but you don't have to make it more public than it already is.
Your clearly some young guy who doesn't know much about the sport yet, and I'm a young guy too, I just happen to spend more time fishing than reading about it on my computer.
A mass decline in overall etiquitte on the beach has been the most detrimental impact of sites like this, and this "spot burning", mugging, and nextel tag while fishing are grea examples.
Jealous? Haha. I suppose so, but only to the extent that I'm jealous of the last powerball winner ;) . Having the big bass and bunker move into the beach your fishing (especially in South Jersey) involves much more luck than skill my friend. With fishing, it's always better to be lucky than good. :)

Nice fish dad!
... and he caught it cause he knew what to do when he saw the bunker, not because of the rock he was standing on.

Congrats on an awesome fish, even better is landing it off that jetty, very hard to do, doubt an amateur could pull it off. Enjoy POPS!!!!!
Doesn't get much better than that.
BTW you guys can have that jetty, all you want. The fish don't swim or move around there, they just sit there and wait for you guys, it's like the OD for fish at happy hour. Go hit that jetty hard, you can't miss. ;) :D :D

the reason he has 8 posts is because he fishes everynight. feever fishes harder that most guys on here. i know he came off strong, but he knows his shit and fishes many jettys in south jersey at night when most people are asleep .the kids a pro when it comes to finding big bass. i have seen it first hand. im not taking sides but when it comes to extreme fishing he is one of the top guys i see catching big bass without a boat. i think its great your pops got that bass and i understand where both sides are coming from. but understand he is out there everynight rain or shine. so unless your out there that much dont be suprised when someone gets upset for burning a spot ..... good luck everyone there is some big bass around go catch em up.;)

swiming out to jettys that are covered at high water, wearing a wetsuit and floating parallel with the beach 50yrds out throwing big plugs ,fishing tips of jettys that are extremly dangerous from heavy surf during nor, easters. landing big bass on rocks that are covered in algae and slime that would be unsafe even during daylight hours , skishing ,anything that involves going into the surf at night in search of big fish ....that kinda stuff. pretty scary to me tried it once but couldnt get into it. felt like somthing was going to eat me.:)

You son/boy, have a lot to learn.. Don't worry it will come, but unfortunately it sounds like it's going to rough road for you with your attitude. You and your supporter's might think you are hot shit now, but that could easily turn into a 10yr dead streak
Although you do sound like the epitome of too many self righteous butt-heads on here you can still be saved in your young years..
Lighten up, nobody is out to steal your fish by telling others where he caught... Fish do have tails...and they do move...
I've owned and operated headboat's and charterboats for 15yrs. Between Maine and Key West. I've seen hotshots come and go like popcorn. Fishing off the rocks or the beach requires nothing but time and few bucks for tackle. Try investing your life, your bucks, again your time and everything you think about into catching other people fish. You'll learn...
The bottom line on any internet board is to share info...not to get on and blow your own horn..
