What a blast! We saw lots of bait, we jigged, trolled, livelined bunker, and used top water plugs. We caught one fish on the troll, and the rest were caught on the Shimano Jigs. (very impressive!) Can't wait to try this on the Tuna!
We have a Butterfly Jigging Seminar scheduled here at Sterling Harbor on June 30th at 6:00 PM. Shimano will be giving away lots of prizes, and I will supply the food and drink!
Hope to see you!

Is there any describable difference between the Shimano Jigs and the Mega Bait Jigs (other than about $15.00 apiece)?
Thanks.

Here's a link to Shimano Butterfly Jigging info.
I'm not familiar with Mega Bait Butterfly Jigs.
By the way the Duke of Fluke will be July 14th, Philly. I'm lining things up for the tournament each day.
See ya on the 30th!

Kathy-

I will be down there for Shimano I think - helping Dan or something. I was told to reschedule my trips.

FYI- last night, i was trolling the west bank and old orchard up in raritan bay. I was looking for a stockpile of fish since my numbers have dwindled. I came across a 16 foot hump and double headered on spoons. We pulled the bass to the boat and several followed. For the next 45 minutes, we hammered 34 inch bass on the flat sided jigs in 16-20 feet of water.

it absolutely blew my mind. i wasn't ready for that during the bunker run, in the bay, in less than 20 feet of water

When Butterfly jigging...always remember to attatch the stinger(Gamagatsu)Hooks to the Spro Swivel and not the Jig(lure).

Alot of anglers fail to attatch the two seperate stinger hooks to the Jig(Lure) and the fish has all the control during the fight!

Attach the hooks to the Spro swivel which is attatched to the Jig(Lure)!

Spro's terminal tackle is the strongest in the industry,The Gamagatsu Hooks are the best...but they have a shorter threading cord on them,so the first tie(Knots) better be on the money!

DOA Lures have some Fantastic new Floats and bobbers that allow you to vertical jig from the Surf. Also The Bobber with a Brain is Fantastic for Vertical Butterffly Jigging from the Surf(Beach)!

Tight Lines!

Megabait small jigs are designed to flutter, Pro Fish Co. now has the original flutter jig that wobbles on retrive & flutters on drop . The width / taper of the jig body enables this to occur.
Most jigs that are blitzed on retrive are too heavy center weighted to achieve consistent results. Yet not being a total contrarian the old diamond styles still hold their own, especially those triangular vikes, with a slight banana body bend .

Barry-

You need to try this Butterfly system before sending people down the wrong path. first, swivels are not used in butterfly jigging - solid and split rings are used. hooks are tied to the solid ring. this is not like jigging a crippled herring or any other jig.

as for using a bobber - i have no idea where that came from. butterfly jigging works because you drop this specially design jig to the bottom or a predetermined depth like 100 feet and work the jig back to the boat. a bobber just won't work.

On spinning rods I use a spro swivel instead of the solid ring and it helps to keep down line twist. On conventional tackle I use The solid ring may not be the way you do it but it works great for me.

You can also use Pro - Fish Co's ring & grommet set up. This really keeps hook positioned out & away from jig body to insure better hook ups.
Can help reduce friction wear on ring from assist hook leader, simply larks head loop end of assist hook around ring grommet & fish.

Is everybody using one or two hooks for this. I prefer the single- less tangles. Any thoughts?
