    Question Penn 320 gti

I bought this reel quite a few years back and never used it, what is the main use for this reel, boat, surf or trolling?

basically it's just a boat reel you can troll with it but it's a star drag not really setup for trolling. casting will be tricky cause of the levelwind sometimes cant keep up with the speed of the cast.

I have used mine for deep water fluking, togging and for stripers. They are easy to maintain and parts are readily available. I replaced the worm gear and paw on mine last year.

I have a few setups with the Penn Slammer rod, on the boat for drum, stripers and deep water flounders. Simple setups that alot of my friends can use without to many problems.

They are a nice little reel that can be used all season long. I fill mine with 20lb Ande and use them for drum and striper in the spring, deep water fluke fishing in the summer, light trolling for blues, bonita and anything else in late summer early fall and chunking bunker and wreck fishing up till the boat come's out around the first of the year. Keep it clean and oiled and it will last many seasons.

Why did you buyit? Not a good reel at all.

PS: Because I'm a good guy I'll give you $50.00 for it.

I bought it about 20 or so years ago beause I always liked penn reels and kind of thought it was like the squidder except with level wind and never used it till about 2 yrs ago I Like the reel till I tried to use it as a casting reel. I could throw stones farther than I could cast it. I guess it will stay on the boat.

OK this time I'm not joking or trying to bust them but do you adjust the drag spin with different lead weights? That little knurled knob near the star drag? When your rigged with whatever lead your using you wind it up to the tip, adjust this knob until with a quick short dip the lead will continue to fall until something stops it. After doing this you should be able to cast easier and farther. This will never be a "Bait Casting Reel" but you should have no problem casting a spread pattern from your boat.
The striper pictured in my sig was caught on a 320 as has hundreds of others.
I have 2 - 310's I use for wreck fishing bass n tog, 4 - 320's I use for chunking stripers and drum or deeper water wreck fishing, n 2 - 330's I use mostly when targeting Big drum most of these are on ugly sticks, not your real expensive and/or fancy rigs some prefer but they have served me well for a long time.

Gti 320 is a good all around star drag reel....I have two I use for clamming stripers in the spring. They are the workhorse of Head boat bluefishing. They are a bit heavy but they do get the work done...
