New battery question.......???

Just picked up a deep cycle trolling battery for my trolling motor on my flatbottom and was wondering what's the best way to break it in? Should I charge it before it's first use or is it at 100% already? Also I picked up a charger that shuts off when it's fully charged. Does that mean I don't have to use the trickle charge? Any help will be appreciated. Thanx.....

Make sure its fully charged. Then after your trip charge it immediatley. Do not let a deep cycle sit because it will eventually discharge and shorten the life of the battery. Also do not charge it at a high amp rating. Usually a 5-10amp setting is optimal. Once its completely charged then set it to trickle mode.

Thanx FD, so the night before I go I should fully charge it and then put it on trickle overnight until I go in the morning to make sure it doesn't drain. I think I can handle that. Thanx for the quick response....
