Iam in got my yak
Now the fun part getting and practice any help would be aprreciated.
-
Congrats on the new yak, what did you get?
-
Congrats and welcome to the club. Yakkin sure is alot of fun. The best piece of advice I can give is,, safety first. Get used to the yak in small bodies of water before taking it out into the bay. Read up on all the required safety gear and get it. You're sure to find many partners willing to team up and go out.

CoNgrats To u Mr. Yakker!! Stealth mode is in affect! You will def. catch more fish! Fish it hard
-
Best advice I can give is buy cheap short fishing rods. they are easy to handle and if you drop it it is not the end of the world
You are better off using light weight lines becase the fish will pull you.
If you go out right now you should have a wet suite on
the water still to cold to go swimming in

Yes i think iam going to wait till the temperature is stable and fart around some small ponds and lakes and get some experience . Before wandering into the bays. I have tryed it out and like it so should add some excitment.

Question as far as racking on the roof is concerned i see some guys just strap it down too the hood and go and then i see all these differnt racks. Its 9 1/2 foot and iam driving a escalade .
-
Do you have a roof rack on the Escalade? Seems like that might be too tall of a truck to put it on top- but maybe I am wrong. If you do have a roof rack and can lift the kay on top- secure it down with 2 straps- one around the front and one around the back. wrap them around the sides of the roof rack and up and over the yak and around the other side of the rack. I use the Thule straps, but you can find ones cheaper. they work well for short and long distances. if you don't have a rack, they sell foam blocks that fit on top of cars/trucks that are then strapped to the yak and truck.
Hope this makes sense.

If you have a roof rack all you need is 4 pads or 2 J holders that clamp to the rods of the rack. I don't use the J holders cause they add alot to the height of your truck. As for getting your yak up there, Thule makes rollers for the back rack bar, so you just get your bow on the rollers and push the yak forward and up, and use pads on the front bar. If you don't have a OEM roof rack, Thule and Yakima make good ones. As for strapping, I wrap the straps around the yak and the bar, not all the way to the sides of the rack. Never had my yaks budge an inch even doing 80 down the GSP

I have an avalanche, and just bought an 11 foot kayak.... all I do is put down the mid gate and slide it on in! Works for me! Can't you put your seats down and fit it in?
They also sell these pretty cheap if you have a hitch:

Tell me about it... I just bought a used one since I'm on a budget, but all the extras are a pain to get. Don't forget about the cold water gear.... I don't know where you are, but in SE PA and the water is still pretty cold. It's not worth getting hypothermia over!
LOL duh... Just saw you were in Philadelphia!
