    Default flounder fishing down south

I was invited to fish for flounder in Louisiana one night. They use flash light and spears to catch them. You wade around at night with a flash light on your head and when you see their eyes looking up at you through the sand – bang you stab them between the eyes with your spear.
That had to be the most bizarre type of fishing trip I have every done. The first few I lost until I learn not to raise the spear until I have the fish in my hand. The beach was crowded with people doing it that night.

I’m sure it’s illegal in NJ

Yes it is illegal in NJ. Kind of hard to release undersized fish healthy with a gig stuck in them.

I believe it is referred to as gigging. Very popular in Florida as well.
