Default Does a striper shrink when put on ice? or in saltwater with ice?

I got 1 keeper striper yesterday, it was 29 inches. I measured him twice before I put him in the box. Well when I got home I measured him again and it was only 28.5 inches. it lost just over 1/2 and inch from when I caught it. Did I just measure it wrong or do they sometimes shrink??

The best way to measure is to have a board with a nose block at one end. Push the nose against the block and pinch the tail to see if it crosses the saw curf you cut in the board at 28 inches.

Great idea Barrel, thanks. I'm not trying to be a wise guy or anything, but I was told you can't pinch the tail. Was just wondering?

Although I did not have a board to push it up against I did measure it carefully, had the ruler on the floor of the boat, and then the fish was on top of it. Measured it a couple times just to make sure it was over 28. and I was sure it was just over 29 inches, when I got home I put it up against my ruler (the one I will be screwing onto the boat) and it read 28.5 inches, and then I took out the ruler I used on the boat and sure enough it also read 28.5 inches.
I thought I was very through with the measurement, which is why I asked do they shrink in cold icy salt water.
