    Default nice catch

Sometimes I pick up sharks in the DB when fluking.I had 2 good ones last yr and I had trouble making an ID I thought they were browns or sand bar .
Can you keep a brown or a sand bar? Years ago 77 I think I caught a 35lb sand bar shark on the old 59th st pier in OC.There was a young guy there who talked me into keeping it to eat. He wanted the jaw and he cleaned it for me.The 1st batch I did the bread crum and fry not bad but on the flat side .The 2nd batch I did a marinara sauce and it did pick up flavor .With what I know now I know I can get those thing to eat well.
I did not keep the sharks last yr because I do not know the regs and how to ID .

Dennis just so you know browns and sandbars are the same shark, just 2 different names for them. And I do not believe you can keep browns but I cant be positive on that one.

    Default thanks for the update

STARTED TO RESPOND LAST NIGHT AND THE INTERNET WENT DOWN.
Anyway I always thought a brown and sand bar were the same and someone said I was wrong. It seemed I also heard you couldn't keep em.
Are there any sharks that I might run into in the DB or surffishing other than doggies that I could kill to eat.I think I can make them tast pretty good.

Im pretty sure that 54" limit is measured to the inside fork of the tail too. Not the overall length. So, a legal fish is more like 60"+ if measured to the end of the tail. The other problem is identifying them. So manypeople kill fish that should have been released unfortunately.
I would suggest looking online and getting a good idea from the pics just incase you get a rare species. A friend of a friend brought a $25k white to the scales a couple of years ago! lol. It was his own fault. Thought it was a mako in the dark.

    Default thanks for the education

I think I will order my shark at a resturant or by stakes at the market to test my developing culinary skills.
I do love getting a nice 30lber when fluking .
