Wait until this afternoon. Most people are still fishing.
Fishing is over at 1 and awards around 2. Should be some good fishing reports from up there.
I really don't know anybody doing it this year,I've never done it not a big fan of killin bass for recognition and prizes.I have a client who does it every year but he said no dice this year.I've heard it's a zoo.I heard from a buddy yesterday the where setting up camps all up and down IBSP yesterday when he was there.Sounds like to much trouble to me maybe thats why we haven't heard anything about it.Who knows??

I have several friends fishing in it today that have fished it many times. Waiting for the reports. They said that it is generally a fun day but some spots are really crazy. They normally have 700-1000 people fishing. 1000 people spread out over 10 miles is not that bad but when certain spot look 'hot" I would guess lots of mugging.
Not a big fan of keeping fish but for some people that only fish once or twice a year and have the thrill of catching that first bass or a big blue and can take it home, I think that is ok. As they become more experienced and learn more about the resources they MAY become like many sucessful anglers and start to release thier catch. A young angler catching thier first fish or enjoying a good time on the beach with family or others enjoying the outdoors is a GOOD thing for all of us and the future of fisheries.
Much better than sitting in front of a tv set playing stupid games or a computer (haha).
I can not wait until later this month to start hitting the park. It should be a LOT less crowded and the fish should be jumping. Hope for conditions like last year! Lots of good times, released fish and good memories.
"I've never done it not a big fan of killin bass for recognition and prizes"
you've never done it yet you make a statement like that
there was 1 bass caught.
it's a day of good family fun.
i doubt if anyone is doing it for fame and fortune!
there were over 800 people today and the beach was far from crowded.
miserable conditions yet everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
i personally am proud to be associated with the event.
whats to discuss![]()
Wasn't that bad. Was crowded directly in front of the bathing beaches/registration area. Moved my truck to the far left corner of the parking lots and walked on to an area with plenty of room for everyone. Wind was nasty though. Caught four snapper blues and a flounder that swallowed a mullet rig. I hate throwing back dead flounder! Haven't been to IBSP since the last NJ Angler tourn. Was nice to get back there, I miss the NJ Angler tournaments there, They were a lot of fun.
Mark, i was 50yds just south of you, i saw ya catch the flounder. (we spoke briefly) if i had known, i would have talked more, but, my boys were to busy beating each other up and throwing sand at each other. we only managed one blue and called it a day when my 8oz sputnicks started tumbling down the beach. the conditions were horrible.![]()
You do not have to kill the bass to get it recorded. They can be released alive......

I fished with my son and my dad. We fished Gilikens, got to our spot at about 0500hrs and stayed there until 1245hrs. Wind was howling all day long. I have a tonneau cover on my truck and we left that open with the truck facing north to help break the wind. The bed of the truck is now loaded with sand from the wind whirling around in there. Probably the most inhospitable conditions I've ever fished in.....but at least it wasn't raining. LOL
We caught a half-dozen or so small blues. Most were not even noticed until we started reeling in to check our bait. The gut-hooked ones we then chunked and started catching small fluke. Better than nothing, but not really much fun on the bait rods. Wind was too strong to fish light stuff for the little blues so we didn't bother doing that. At the awards ceremony, they said over 800 people fished. I don't know if that was how many were registered, or if they actually drove the beach and counted, but this year was the least crowded of all the years we've fished it. From where we were fishing, there was over a thousand yards of beach to our south where there was absolutely nobody fishing, then I could see the crowds at the bathing beaches. The winner was a striper of just under 32". There were three prizes for stripers, so at least three were caught. They said over 30 blues were registered, but largest was not even 18".
For the record, you don't have to kill anything for the tournament. It's only the length of the fish that is used. There are judges driving back and forth along the beach, and they measure your fish, fill out your card for each fish, and then you can let it go if you want. Whole process takes only a minute or two.
