Haven't been having much striper action lately. Between the wind, boat in the shop for repairs and plain bad luck, it's been a couple of melancholy weeks. That changed today. Left Money Island Marina around 7:50 and got achored up about 8:15. Wind was predicted to be 5 to 10 from the west. It was more like 15 to 18 from the N/NW this morning. Hovever, as the morning wore on the wind speed subsided. High tide was around 8:00, so we had wind and tide in unison. Picked a couple of "shorts" and around 9:15 got the first "keeper". Action was good to excellent all morning. Wound up with our limit: a 29, 29 1/2, 34 and 36 incher. Unhooked and put the forth and final fish, in the cooler at noon. Ate lunch, then pulled the anchor and headed for the slip.
Water temperature hovered around 49. I believe this season still has a couple good weeks left. Fish seem to be in close, as they have been recently. There are lotsa "shorts". We released about 8 -10 "shorts". Fortunately, all were lip-hooked and will live to bit in the future. Oh yea, bunker is in much better supply than it has been. Money Island had excellent fresh bunker.![]()
