Do crabs have any meat in them in Dec?...I thought they stop feeding when the temperature is this cold and they bury themselves in the mud ?

Looks cool but I have a stupid question - what happens to the non-legal crabs that are tossed back? Do they survive and re-burrow? Yeah, yeah, I know I am being a pansy

"In a civilized and cultivated country, wild animals only continue to exist at all when conserved by sportsmen. The excellent people who protest against all hunting and consider sportsmen as enemies of wildlife are ignorant of the fact that in reality the genuine sportsman is, by all odds, the most important factor in keeping the larger and more valuable wild creatures from total extermination"

November, December and early January is the probably the best eating crab you will find. When you get into late January until June, they become very thin on the inside. I was unaware of this until about 4 years ago. I alwys believed the myths about August & September being the best.

Aug and Sep are "the best" when compared to Apr-July, the months that most people crab.

I tell people that I'm going crabbing in Oct and Nov and they look at me like I'm an idiot. Even though I am , I still know that I'm going to catch, and they're going to be "full".

Live blue claw crabs were $7.99/dozen at the store yesterday. Not too bad when you consider what it costs in bait and gas to catch them yourself.

Way to go native son,a sure way to beat cabin fever.
funny story, went to the All You Can Eat Seafood Buffet in Toms river friday night with some friends,in walk a group of Salts, all wearing SPORT FISHING jackets and shirts with the names of there boats on them, they ate flounder, scallops, clams, lobster, crab legs, shimps plate after plate.
i over heard storys of how much bait they buy for a single fishing trip, one guy boasted he spent $500 on flats, squid, chum, for an overnight canyon trip.
Did it ever dawn on these guys that the seafood there eating, the bait there buying is all caught by,you guessed it COMMERCIAL FISHERMEN
Thanks Guys for Fueling our Economy, its guys like them that keep us working
