Roatan, Honduras Trip Review
My wife and I went to Roatan for the 1st time for some scuba diving and fishing. Roatan is BEAUTIFUL & relatively easy to get to as well direct flights out of Newark right into the island or Philadelphia to Huston (2:40) and then Huston right into Roatan (2:30). The diving is off the hook and second to none in the world. The resort we were staying at hooked us up with a flats guide Perry from Mango Creek Lodge (check out their website). We fished 2 trips w/ Perry on the flats full day charters. Here it is in a nut shell - Permits galore (& Permit season hasn't started yet) we saw dozens and I had shots at about a 18-20. Hooked 3 landed 2 one about 12 Lbs and the other 25 Lbs. In addition bones, plenty of them plus in the mangroves and some deeper honey holes Perry knows of Tarpon 10-40+ Lbs. The bi-catches were quite enjoyable too - Box Fish, Barracudas, GIANT Parrot Fish, GIANT Trigger Fish that if hooked were virtually unstoppable. Overall Roatan is not well know (yet) for its flats so there is very little pressure and you more likely to not see another single person fishing the whole day on flats that are up to 5+ miles long. Not sure if I will be able to post the pics I have they were loaded onto a Kodak Website but will try. Believe me this is a vacation spot to check out especially if you dive as well. Check out Barefoot Cay Resort & Mango Creek Lodge websites.
