An interesting aspect of this tournament is ?The Beating on the Beach?, a tournament-within-a-tournament that pits the communities of two prominent websites ? Stripersurf.com (SSC) and BassBarn.com (TBB) - against each other. With the recent growth and tremendous local influence of these two entities, it?s really no surprise that what started out last year as a little ?side bet? has grown into an all-out, quite formalized, war, albeit a friendly one. The top ten fish from each team are counted, and the overall winner takes home an engraved trophy. In addition, each losing team member must affix the winning squad?s sticker to their truck or vehicle. Talk about adding salt to the wounds!

SSC won the trophy last year, and the team members passed it around so much that they had to invest in a protective shipping case to protect it from damage! This year appears as though it will be no different, as ?Team SSC? defended its title in admirable fashion, putting up 110.74 pounds to TBB?s 88.58 pounds. Although on the surface this looks to be a wide margin, in reality the competition was much closer, as several big fish from ?Team TBB? missed the 3pm scale closing time by just seconds. Whether or not the weight of those mystery fish would have been enough to close the gap will never be known, but it certainly sets the stage for a heated battle next year!

TSSTRIPER Hey this sounds more interesting.For a boat guy as myself I like competition!I can blow the dust off my surf gear for this one. Anyone have room in there truck? I am in if you need more. Add me to the list also, I'm usally on vacation and go away that week, but this year we don't go until the 27th. If anyone has a truck thats going to be riding the beach I can meet you somewhere or if a lot of folks are walk-ups let me know where you're all meeting.
