30lb braid is to lite, but 30lb mono is ok?
Is that like saying a pound of lead is heavier than a pound of feathers?

i got a very good laugh when i read this. but I have a shimano thunnus 12000 with 50lb power pro which I had planned to use this year. I feel fairly confident I'll be fine with that until I see otherwise. I do have about a 20 foot 60lb flouro leader on the end. just to be safe

I think the difference is abrasion resistance under load, not the breaking point.

50 LB braid ain't gonna last much longer in tension if it finds a sharp edge.

Isn't that why people use a wire into a long >>>30# mono leader???

I have a 8/0 circle hook with an 8 foot single strand wire leader 90# class. then a heavy swivel and 15-20 feet of 60lb fluorocarbon leader before my braid starts. I'm not too worried about the sharks teeth or skin rubbing my braid.

30lb braid can slice through thick mono shock leader. 30lb mono would not. I know you're a good fisherman, would you use 30lb braid for sharks? I caught a 50lb brown on 30lb braid once but would not push it like that again. I know in delmarva guys use 20lb mono on them.

How in do you cast that rig from the beach? I know a heavy swivel doesn't go thru the guides on my rod that good.

all you need from the beach is a stout rod, quality reel, capable of holding about 200yrds of 50# braid, wire or heavy mono leader, 9/0 hook and some kingfish or makeral heads.make sure your reel has a good drag system, these sharks fight ten times stronger then sand sharks. and they dont like to come to the beach. have caught and seen them in the breakers, no need to yak bait out. heluva lot of fun!

That is some good insight that I was too stupid to even think about. Thank you

I'm sure if you fished any of the Delaware bay beaches with some meat you'll catch all you want. last Monday while fluking we must've had 20. Any time meat was on the hook brownies were there. Didn't matter what depth either. We actually saw multiple blitzes of brownies on bunker blowin then up on the surface
