Realize its their winter, I've only been there in January.

Your best bet is probably Cabo Frio, about a two hour ride north of Rio if you drive like a maniac as they all do. This is where the big boats come from all over to fish as they have a great blue marking fishery.

Sorry I can't be of more help but that's where I'd start looking.

Wife has family in both Rio and CF, and they belong to both yacht clubs. Unfortunately, they don't fish. Extremely frustrating !

There is great fishing in Brazil, but very few charter boats. Rio and Ilhabella Island both have a handful of charter operations and there are also a handful up in Salvador. While cabo frio and vitoria have produced big numbers of giant marlin I am unaware of any charter boats in those areas and neither city is particularly nice. The marlin season tends to run from December to June, so you will be there out of season. That said, up in Salvador at least they have pretty good bottom fishing and jigging for amberjack in the winter months, so that can be an option. Also keep in mind that charters in general are much more expensive in Brazil as there gas/deisel prices are 3-4x what we pay in the states.

I have fished out of Canavieiras and caught blues up to around 1200, but that is really an October to March bite. I do believe, however, that whites start showing up there around the end of August and that the action can get pretty good.

I believe there is actually a fairly reputable charter operation out of Canavieras, which should be a relatively short drive from either Ilheus or Porto Seguro. But again, prime time is in their summer months
