if you think i need to learn how to drive the beach you are sadly mistaken,
just because you haven't been stuck yet(or so you say)doesn't mean it is never going to happen.a diesel with big tires is not the perfect beach runner.hummers get stuck!
i am also aware that awd is not 4x4 but the 4x4 option got me a permit and that is what matters to me.

    thats a pretty ignorant statement...hahaha

but i DO agree with the part that awd is not 4wd...in my opinion, awd doesn't belong on the beach.

had no real issues other than avoiding very deep tracks
didn't lower air pressure but i thnk it would be better if i did.

    basshook101,aarrgghhh......you hit a nerve!
i hated to sell my pick up for sure but economics trumped emotion.
i just couldn't deal with the low mpg combined with high gas prices
surprisingly the little ford is a capable beach buggy(so far).
while it is true it is not a real 4x4 the sucker handles brigantine with no problem.

Lotta good beach driving info on the NJBBA web site. Check it out. And if you enjoy driving on the sand consider a membership.

    Few other tid bits....

Tires with an aggressive tread dig in the sand and are not ideal for beach driving. Regular street tire is fine.

And just because you can drive without airing down doesn't mean you should. Your shortening the life of your motor and tranny.

Not airing down, especially not airing down oversize aggressive tread tires, results in deeper ruts making it more difficult for the next guy.

The forsythe refuge had a picture up on the web for a while with a caption reading something to the effect "damage caused by ORV's" and all it was were some deep tire ruts made by vehicles not properly aired down. Other envl groups have used similar pictures in their quest to close beaches and protect endangered species. When folks push out their chest and fan their tail feathers regarding tire size, etc it makes us seem like off road-ers. Not fisherman. Not doing any of us any good.

WWoah woah...there is nothing wrong with us "off roaders". Ever hear of the organization tread lightly? Just as there are assholes out on the beach, there are assholes out in the woods. And for the record, i wasnt bragging about tire size..simply stating the setup i had as to why my jeep was perfectly fine on the sand...

hey fish bucket didnt you drive a maroon pick up? it had your name on it. anyway i dont air down. i only have fished brig. up to this point. its not the meat on the tire its more the size. tires can be bald. i drive a dakota with the tow package and it sits high up. i think most guys on here who surf fish know the diff. between awd and 4 wheel drive. some of you guys need to relax.
