Hawaii ?
Heading to Oahu for a week then Kona for a week. Was planning to add a couple of rods/reels and some metal and plugs to my golf bag and give it a try from the beaches/rocks.
Anyone tried fishing from the surf there? Tips, suggestions and any comments/advice would be sincerely appreciated.
I was in Kauai a few years ago. I did both fresh and salt water fishing while there. Although I did not attempt to surf fish there I saw a few locals who did it on a daily basis. I stopped and spoke with 1 guy who I saw a couple of days and he told me that some big fish could be taken from the surf. Most guys were using a rod around 8' long and had big wooden in-line bobbers with cut fish for bait. I did snorkel and scuba right from the beach and you don't have to cast far to put your bait within reach of some big snapper, grouper, cuda, etc. Good luck.Originally Posted by sach

if your using bait, you better have some sort of float...
the lava rocks will take whatever gets near them
