Well for now with the surf set up i bought off of fellow barner k9100 im gonna stick with that set up the 11' tsnami airwave and the penn 7500
Which is both all metal and made in the usa , back when it meant something. He says the reel is 20+ yrs old. I am willing to spend a bit more money to get a decent set up for a biat pole , as for casting lighter lures im gonna keep that to my heavier geared freshwater set ups and off the boays since they will be fun to fight and ill use my older boat pole the shakespear alpha set up for casting the heavier lure.

Now i would try out the set up tonight down on the beach but im thinking it may not be such a good idea to go solo and try for shark with it. Since i have never done it before. No idea what to expect. So im just gonna hold out till next week when the weather breaks some and make a morning run somewhere for daytime fishing and once the bathers hit the beach ill start hitting back water and move south towards the parkway bridge heading into capemay so i can have atleast a bit of cover if the sun get to be too much and ill have my smaller gear to have fun with the small sharks

I wondered how many others felt a twinge of American pride when they read that,,,,,that just happened to stick out in my mind, thanks for mentioning it, Jimmy,

Good luck at night....IMO the day temps have ramped down the night bass and blue action, but rays and sharks are still feeding....good luck, and remember not to stray too far from your rod....

.Hey darkskies, it seems that you caught on to the rrason why i put that part in there. And it was for just that reason that i did. I havent been down yet but im going to this week. Ive never been surf fishin at night but i have no thoughts of letting the pole ne outa my hands if the bait is in the water. From the freshwater apect i see what happen when tje rod is out of your hands. My brother lost a custom made pole to a carpor cat in the salem river about 20 yrs ago .so no letting the rod go. As for what i catch be it blue or bass or skate or shark i really dont care.. its the fishing and catching part i enjoy. If its an edible fish and keeper size then thats a plus .. . Good eats! if its an 8 foot shark i have to fight for 30-45 minutes then thats just as good in my part as long as the fish swim free when i release them then im just as happy as i am when i catch a fish worth eating

You would be very lucky if an 8 footer only fought for 30-45 mins haha usually a few hrs

Ok stripeman thats a better estimate then a few hrs. Well then damn 1 8' shark would do me fir a week of catching nothing. I like the soinds of that. Ive never been for shark or for that matter anything over 20" in the surf. If i was lucky wjen i was surf fishin heavy every weekend i would be lucky to pull an 15 " flounder or blue or evan back in the early80's weakie on the beach in fort. Now that im getting older (almost 40) ide like to get into finding the bigger fish that actually put up a fight. Since i have neiether the money or the patience to own a boat , im stuck on the surf. Bad thing, probably not. But im thinking if i want some big fish ill be paying for the pleasure of getting on a boat. But lets see what i can do from the shoreline. Now heres the part that will make most if not all of the more experienced fishermen/ ppsters laugh. Ive been fishing for 30 yrs and have yet to catch a large shark or even a striper. Yeah ive fished for the stripers but wrong areas or times. And here i am wanting to go after shark at night on a beach. I want to toss a line out into the dark and then hold on for what sounds like a long fight with the hopes of getting it on the beach a picture or two taken and then back in the water for a clean release with the hopes of not getting bit.

Well a few hrs is prolly a lil bit far fetched too, but i been trying to get into this type of fishing too, read alot about long fights, I guuess it all depends on the size of the shark and the tackle your using.

Good deal, Jimmy...it seems too many of us have forgotten about American Pride....mediocrity is the norm in some places in America today...we used to be the best in the world, not solely because of our products but because of our attitudes and perseverance...and as I look around society today it seems a lot of that has been replaced with mediocrity....

Jimmy, apologies it took a while to get back to this.....
30 years without a bass....I'm not laughing....it kinda hit me inside.....it's time for you to catch a bass.....I'm still a sucker for a good story....

Saw what you guys did with the sharks in the other thread.....
Spend the same time at night searching for bass (when they are around in numbers, and you will find your bass....)

If you can't, send me an e-mail when the fall comes...if you don't mind travelling to North NJ, I'll do whatever I can to get ya into some nice bass....you bring the thermos of coffee and one rod, I've got the rest covered.....good luck, talk soon.....

darkskies.. i dropped you an email the other day through barn mail not sure if it made it to you.. never heard back..

stripeman.. not sure if you saw the thread we were running on friday night and saturday morning about the strathmere fishing. the sharks bill and i caught were a bit of a dissappointment or atleast i know whith out a doubt mine was as far as the fight went.. less then 10 minutes to land the 3footers and the 4 was about 15 minutes. the ray on the otherhand that bill landed , not that was almost a 30 minute fight .. really running with his drag and whatever it was that took off on his kingfish rig that spooled him in about 20 seconds was just amazing. i have never seen a rod bend like that one did. it had a bend going all the way down to the handle. i dont think any amount of line would have landed that thing with the way it spooled him . would have been amazing to see what it actually was though.

since im starting up work on tuesday ill be able to do more fishing since ill be in pleasentville only a short run to the shore points. i figure a week of adjusting to work then back on the beach and getting the rest of the items needed for solo sharking then its time to give that a try
