    Default Kayak Crabbing 7-9-12

headed out in the kayak with the little for some crabs. half way out, dumped the pot..and continued on. my 10 pound weight wasn't holding at first, but once it buried in the mud it was game on with some monster crabs till the tide slacked off. picked up 12 on 3 drop lines, 2 of which came on the same tiny piece of bait as we were running out. ran out of the 3 frozen bunker i had and went to pick up the pot that had 2 semi fresh bunker in it. had 5 more monsters. 2 were under 5"..all the rest are 5 1/2-7" crabs..most on the bigger side.

we had a blast..but my lower thighs and knees are BURNT now from the way my shorts were haha

Crabbing out of the yak is a blast and almost as fun as fishing! Good job on those big ones. When they're hungry they can do a number on the bunker in a hurry.

This is what I use crabbin. I bait up before launch and I can stack up to 10 traps. Then I head to my planned spot and start dropping them down the side bank. Then I just keep working them. If it produces it gets dropped back down if nothing I move it a little.

Dicks has them. Get the metal ones, the string nets are a pain in the A$$. They're about $4.50 each. only catch is you will need to replace the factory strings they will fall apart very easy.

My mouth is watering seeing that pic. I'm hoping to get out crabbing off the yak real soon. You've inspired me

They are the Double Ring Baskets. I use the metal ones, the string net ones are a pain to get the crabs out of.
I replace the cheap factory strings with 80lb Berkley Braid that I have a spool of. I bought it to replace the strings on my Outback but also works good on crab baskets, the crabs haven't chewed them up yet.
