No filing. I started out using gamagatsu #8 big river bait hooks but switched to 8/0 circle hooks cuz the sharks weren't all that big and it gives u a better chance of gettin yer hook back. We started out mainly using mackerel heads but once they started to show up it didn't seem to matter what we threw they'd hit it.

    Hey Jimmy,
I 'm glad that the rod and reel you got from me is getting some good use. It seems like you are having some success fishing for the sharks. Good job. I hope that combo is working well for you. Good luck and keep fishing ! Dave

Hey dave the rod worked great but im probably gonna have to either replace the reel or attempt to locate a new bail for it. I believe its bent. It rubs on the hansle, its not a serious issue but more of an annoyance. Feeling the rub when the two line up. Though i must say both the rod and reel handled the one shark well even though it wasnt much of a fight. Which quite honestly was a major let down. As others have said though each shark fights differently amd im looking forward to going again in a couple of weeks. I start my new job on tuesday and that is in pleasentville so i forsee many nights of useing the rod. Ill probanly take a week or two off from fishing just to get acclimated to the new job but after that maybe twice a week hitting the shoreline for line soaking and bait gathering then friday nights on the beach casying for more of the toothy ones.
