Nailed pob 18-20 cocktail to slammer blues on crock spoons and kastmasters at dawn on incoming tide till water got too rough to hold jetty position safely.Swithced to tapdancer rig-3/8oz bucktail w/white mullet and shrimp teaser and bounced bottom - got into short flounder and keepersized weakies to about 20"- all released. Switched to the yak at slack and drifted for about 10 decent sized shorts and a BIG runnoff that towed me a bit then broke off-probly a ray but tons of fun. left em biting at outgoing. Decent summer mixed bag with plenty of action! nothing for dinner but whats a 'po boy gonna do

Fished LBI south jetties this past week. Like everyone else, caught many spot and kings in the surf using fishbites and the occasional sand crab or calico that got washed up. Kids enjoyed that. Also used 1/2 ounce white bucktails with deceiver flies as teasers for multiple fluke in the wash in the morning (only 1 keeper) -- most at high tide and beginning of the outgoing. No love on anything with gulp (go figure). Tossed a kastmaster in the middle of the day yesterday just to see what was up and, on the second cast, beached a small cow nose ray -- was not expecting that, but a decent fight taking lots of drag. Plugged and threw metals before sunup everyday only catching the sunrise and snappers when the birds came in close chasing what appeared to be rainfish / tiny spearing.

PS -- First post here. Thanks for all the helpful info as I've just started to seriously fish from the surf beginning this past April. Hopefully looking forward to the Fall.

Tarpon fishing has picked up in my area, averaging 3 fish a day from the beach ranging from 60-90lbs on bucktails & soft plastics.

Hit south end of OC NJ 8/9 and 8/10 at night. was the middle of outgoing both times. Steady South/ Southeast winds made for bigger waves.

A nice pick of kings and Spots, no bluefish around like the week before, sorry late post but the blackberry doesnt seem to post well.

The kids did the Ocean CityFishing club tourny on Sat. My daughter had most fish, she got a trophy , ribbon and a nice new fishing rod. She had some nice kingfish, spot, and a couple of sharks.

    Default 8/12 report

LBI surf on Sunday was too rough for fluke and kingfish, so I hit the back on foot and did very well. I lost count, but I bet I had 20+ shorts and 3 nice keeper fluke to 20 inches and another that was just too close to call. Loads of spearing with fluke, snappers, and baby sea bass harrasing them. There are a lot of needlefish swimming around too. 80 degree weather was so great, and standing waist deep in the bay helped. I fished a solid 7 hours without breaking a sweat. Not bad for August Still haven't hooked the elusive weakfish in Ocean County waters. Any signs in BI or LE backbay areas?

Congrats to her. I saw her at the end, she was thrilled. My boy won the trophy last year for largest fish, but did not catch much this year. It was slow fishing for a lot of people.
