    Hey Dan,

Just placed an order. Thanks for the pics/tutorial, it simplifies a lot about deep fluke rigs.

BTW, what type/strength leader do you usually use?

Personally I like Yo-Zuri #40 DP Fluor. Right now I'm out of it so I'm using #50 Yo-zuri which is a tad heavy the #40 seems ideal for me.

Great information Dan, nice rigs, we tie ours almost the same way, and they are fluke killers. The one thing I do know is in the deepwater ocean flukeing sites, what they prefer the most each day oftewn varies a little bit, we always use the same basic rigs but everyone starts with a slight variation of them and it doesn't take long to see what they are hitting best that day, we then all switch to them You guys are really excellent fluke fishermen, very good stuff in this post.

Thanks for the kind words Ron appreciate it. Yes I agree each day is different, I think the Moon phase and ground swell affects what they want as does the pressure. We had a kick a** stellar day last Friday, Saturday was weak compared to Friday, Captain Howard noticed and pointed out that Saturday's pressure was 2 bar lower than Friday - food for thought!

Your very welcome Dan you guys earned the praise you get and more, one of the very best fluke fishermen out there, I'd highly recommend all of the fluke rigs Dan puts out, you can be sure they've been highly tested.
I would most definetly say any boat that is known for consistently putting up big numbers and big fluke on a consistant bases is a boat that is always ready to make adjustments each day they fish, sometimes it's a very simple change, perhaps a slight color variation, or a slight change in weight, or in bait strip length, there are a ton of little things any experienced fluker will have up his sleeve to use when other boats or guys on your boat are doing better then another one, keeping an open mind is a key to being a very good fishermen.

I try to cut the strips of squid so the head is larger than the tail, pin the bait very close to the top with the first hook, and then see where the bend in the second hook aligns with the bait and penetrate it there with the second hook

Does that make sense ? Basically the goal is for the strip of bait to move naturally in the water, so you want it to lay flat and just have the hooks poking through but the art is that it still lays flat like the hooks are not even in it...
