Default Help with fishing this weekend.

So this is my first year with my own boat. 22ft, I have not done very well fishing in the back this year at all. I didn't get started till july when the waters were very warm.

Anyhow the kid is getting frustrated. I'm going to give it another shot this weekend. What do you think the best chance we have to catch anything is? Blues, Croaker, Weakies, Triggers, Throwbacks? Should I just jump on a party boat or a six pack boat? The wife says just get him outta the house and make sure he catches something. We are in extreme south jersey. You can email me if you want.

best investment is to charter a boat from your area, that is fishing for whatever you like to fish for. you will learn some areas to fish, techniques that work for your area, and probably catch some fish.

If you have a 22 go to one of the Ocean reefs. Fish minnows and clam you will find something.

do you have chart plotter? best bet would be to get some numbers for some structure on a inshore reef and drift. Straight fluke rig with a heavy enough sinker to stay vertical. Minnies and squid should put some fish in the box. Biggest thing I can tell someone who hasnt done it before is make sure you are on the structure!!! if your not loosing a bunch of rigs then you arent going to catch many fish. Bring alot of heavy weights and alot of rigs. Good Luck!

Everything Reelality said! Also, if you have up to date charts in your chart plotter, there's a whole mess of wrecks not far offshore. The way the bite is right now, I'll bet some of these closer wrecks are holding fish.

TI reef is about 2-3 miles out of Townsends Inlet. Any local tackle shop should be able to give you the GPS numbers, or just follow the fleet heading Northeast out of the inlet.

Check the NJ reef site you can print color charts and there' some info on how to fish the reefs. There's a guy who fishes a flat 22 ' Carolina Skiff on the LE reef frequently and I've seen him out in some pretty snotty weather. Not my idea of fun but obviously safe as he gets home all the time.

If you're not comfortable going to the reefs there are always fish to be had around the jetties. Cast small metals or small bucktails around the rocks and i'm sure you'll get some bluefish. in the evening look for birds around just outside the jetty. last night they were 100's diving in schools of small blues...lots of fun and good eats if cooked fresh. Get a chart and find some inshore wrecks..again lots of blue fish and small sea bass...fun to catch on light tackle. look for threads on this board about catching triggers...If no luck this weekend email me and we'll go out next weekend. i'm no expert but end up getting lucky on most days.
