Default best way to work a mag darter

From experience which way for you is the best way to work a mag darter. What colors, sizes, techniques etc. I am looking to use them this fall for the first time.

    Slow to just keep contact
90% of fish are caught by 10% of fishermen.

What longcast said. Just keep in contact with it. You wont feel it digging or anything since its not really even a darter. The subtle action it has is what makes it so good.

And IMO, I would not worry too much about color

    Ditto !!!!

I always take a new lure and work it in my pool, or in the lagoons, to see exactly how it looks, compared to how it feels with a certain rod. You will find that some rods swim baits better than others. It all has to do with the rod. I say its 50/50 split between the lure & the rod.

I can use 2 rods, to make a single lure swim 2 ways, with a similar technique. Hope thats clear enough to understand?? I know what I am trying to explain, but just does not look right here.......

So by keeping contact with the lure you pretty much mean be one with the lure and just feel its every move right?

if your fising somewhere with current(inlet/rip) and feel the current pull the lure.....stop retrieving....let the plug work in the current. siting there wigglin can draw strikes. bass like nothing more than a struggling baitfish to snack on.

fish are like us...some days your lazy some days your fired up. gotta figure out if the want a steady retrieve, a stop and go type or a fast tight wiggle type retrieve.

cast and let it land, once it hits the water i give it two hard pulls to make it dig then barely turn the handle on the retrieve and just keep line tight and let it swing in current. every full turn of handle i give it 3 twitches and let it pause for a second then continue retrieve usualy the fish hits it just after the 3 twitches. this is what i like to do its not the only way but its what works for me.

I like to fish them next to the jettys and reel slow bouncing them off the submerged rocks

Don't you get caught up on the rocks a lot though. To loose a mag darter which is roughly 16 bucks I'd be pretty pissed. I mean I love fishing jettys but never thought about fishing the lure right next to the rocks. Im guessing that is where most of the fish hide out? I mean really though bouncing the lure off the jetty rocks isn't this just a snag waiting to happen and im also geussing I have to bring a gaff if I hook into a decent size fish?

Takes a lil practice just cast parallel to the rocks and only bounce it off one or two rocks. When it hits the rock pause a sec and let it float up just work it slow til your confident. Bombers work this way as well I tend to use black and use this technique on Tog filled jettys. Strike pro makes a cheaper intimation mag darter just change the hooks and rings out
