    Default Depth finder issue

My fish/depth finder is maxing out to the deep side when I get up on plane. Since I have started crabbing this has become a little more important becuaseI am running across some pretty shallow areas of the bay.
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Gary

I think you need to post a little more inf on make and madel.
Next I would check the manual or the manf. website.

I have a Lawarence and sometimes I need to set the depths I'm scanning.

    Default a couple things

Any vibration of the transducer can cause this. I had this problem before. If it is too close to the motor can cause interference. Also keep it away from the strake lines where the hull steps up from one angle to the next. You may have to try remounting the transducer.

Is your boat in the water? With the warm water temps, stuff is growing like mad.....you may have to scrape off some barnacles or slime....

I had this problem last year...turned out my transducer was knocked upward.....happens when it gets loose, or hits something. Pushed it back down, tightened up the screw, cleaned it off, and it was just fine.....hope it's an easy fix.

Sounds like a transducer installation issue. Is it on the transom or in the hull?

If it's on the transom and angled back, It probably ends up out of the water and never recieves the soundwaves bouncing off bottom. Also could be an issue of the location of it. If you're getting a lot of turbulence in the water where it is that'll cause issues too. You want it somewhere that has nice clean looking water, and make sure it's not protruding too far into the water or that can make it draw air under itself at speed.

If it's in the hull, the turbulence/clean water thing still applies. Your epoxy may have also seperated from either the ducer or the hull.

Thanks for all the advise. I am going to take a good look at the placement of the transducer. I replaced it last year and this is the first year I have had this problem.
I do keep it in the water and yes, there is some growth. I didn't want to paint it when I did the hull. I have brushed it off a few times but it didn't seem to matter.
Maybe it has come loose, but I don't think so. It can't hurt to check.
I have never looked at whether or nor not it gets bubbles under it at high speed, and that is the theory that I like the best. It maybe above the strake lines.
Thanks again. At least I have some direction and will post the results of my investigation.
