our boats on dry dock for the winter in a south jersey marina. my father went to the boat to get a battery and noticed the hydraulic jack for the trim tab was gone. somebody stole it. that got me kind of mad. that punk couldnt have pulled out 30 bucks, ran to west marine and buy one? i suggest to everyone that you make frequent checkups on your boats on drydock somewhere other than your house.

sorry to hear of your loss. people have no respect for others property, its a shame but that is how many people are today. this could still happen at your home to, but probably less likely.bb

Yes it happens. Its sad to hear when things like this happen. It will not be the last report abouot this. Mid Feb is when the drydocked boats get hit hard. Its best to check them every weekend if you can. Just to let everyone know who stores there boats with us I watch them the best I can. Bear dont let any one down the driveway without me knowing. I also walk the yard everday.

The Barn members raised a good reward this summer for some other stolen but as far as I know no luck. Their are local police on here, any updates on any scumbags caught? Just at the breezy lee there were many thefths this summer. And my marina got hit to. It seems they are never caught. With all the money we spend down there I think they should do more to catch these jerks. Maybe all the marinas should buck up for cameras. If my marina added 20 bucks a boat a year for cameras on every dock I'd be all for it. Seems to me a small price for piece of mind. It won't stop theifs but at least most will think twice.

2006 will be my third summer with this boat, this winter and last I was thinking about putting it in a slip for the summer, its incidents like this that change my mind and keep me trailering and storing the boat in my yard. Its really sad that there are people who can't leave other peoples property alone.

Sounds like this stuff is getting more common.

Boats are, without a doubt, the easiest things to rip off. When you think about all the stuff that hangs off of them, engines-props-rod holders-outrigers etc., it a wonder you don't hear about this stuff more often. Basically all you need is a screw driver. It's always a worry that you will go to the marina and find all your electronics missing.

Guys, I am fabricating, blue printing in my head, an alarm system for my boat a 23 Reg. Motion sensors, possibly. For the electronics though, a simple switch in the electronic box will due. If the door opens a lous decibal sound goes off. One would have to be real resposible with them though. marina owners will have little patience with an alarm going off unneccesarily. As for the big boats a semi modified home alarm system will due just fine. You can pick these up at radio shack relatively cheap! Just a thought, this may help someone.

GenMar has had an option on their boats since at least 2003 called Seakey it works like the Northstar system. It has a hidden transmitter that sends a signal to a GPS satellite. If the boat is moved, you are notified. It also monitors other boat systems such as battery charge and water level in the bilge. You can also send an SOs like an EPIRB.

If you figure a low price of thirty grand per boat and on most that does not cover even the engines, Times 100 boats plus in most marinas, that would be 3 million plus, in property. To not have any security in place is asking for it. A wawa does not do near three million in business and they have cameras and guards to protect their money. I guess when we get hit it is not the marinas money so who cares. To stop this Piracy maybe the old laws should be inforced, A pirate (Person who robs,or commits illegal violence, at sea or on shores of the sea.) Is to be hanged from the yard arm until dead or from the nearest place of exucution. I am all for it.
