    Just saw this. Is it true? I have not yet downloaded SP 2 at home because of problems people were having with it. Whats your advice Jason? Thanks.

    Service Pack 2 Downloads on April 12

    On Tuesday, April 12, Microsoft will turn off the blocking feature that has made it possible for some enterprises to block Windows XP Service Pack 2 downloads by employees who use Automatic Update reports Information Week

    Service Pack 2 released last September to bolster Windows XP security features will be considered a critical upgrade. The automatic downloading of SP2 could catch a large number of IT directors offguard, a survey published last week by supplier AssetMetrix shows that just 24 per cent of users of US corporate PCs running XP have voluntarily installed SP2. The study by AssetMetrix found that more than one-third of the computers were running Windows XP, but only 24 percent had installed the security-oriented Service Pack 2 upgrade.

    'It's about time users had this update,' Gary Barnett, research director at analyst Ovum said. 'You can't go on whining about security without installing key patches that Microsoft has made available.'

    AssetMetrix advises companies that did use the blocking tool, yet now want employees to upgrade to SP2, to do so gradually before April 12 in order to avoid a support problem

    The way I understand it is that;

    Anyone that is using the BITS technology and has autoupdate turned on, will automatically have SP2 downloaded and installed on or slightly after April 12th.

    That is how I understand it as well.

    As far as problems with SP2 I have not experienced any. I have it installed on all the workstations here at the office without any problems. So it plays fine with business apps. I don't know if there are any problems with games.

    The only good software that Microsoft has created was Solitare.

    We have had several issues with XP sp2 that we have delayed rolling out the update to our company.
