whenever someone tells me they like pats or genos I always wonder if they've just never had a good one or if they actually like that crap. A few people i've met outside of the area have told me something along the lines of "I've been to philly once in my life. had a philly cheesesteak. that's about it" and everytime it's either pats or genos. I tell them that's not a philly cheesesteak.

Well when you're old enough to drink and stay out past midnight, you'll have to head down there and see for yourself...

Had 'em all. No comparison (at least the one's in S. Philly) Pork Shack @ Weccacoe/Snyder in South Philly. Best seven bucks for a cheesesteak w/onions.

That video is so typical of the area. When I was twenty something (late seventies – eighties) I had a lot of good times in South Philly. After the game, races on Front Street, wrestling at the Arena, night at the Trok, a night on South Street, etc etc etc, Pat’s and Geno’s (the area) was always a/the place to go. Bars closed but they were open. It was just something to do. Their sandwiches sucked then but nobody cared, it was about the “ambiance”. I remember the two of them then; they were in the news then and always will be. From what I understand they are friends and do all they can to bring people to their eateries and South Philly. It is all about the “show” and to draw people to South Philly. There is only one South Philly on the planet and it is a place everyone should go to and have a good time. If you have never been, GO. To start, be sure to go to the Italian Market in the afternoon.

Neither Pat's nor Geno's can hold a candle to Steves on St Vincent.
Chinks is absolute horsemeat and the place could use a good scrubbin. John's Roast Pork makes a great steak. Chubby's is another decent one. Last edited by jbones11; 11-03-2009 at 07:17 PM. |

Chinks is a clean shop.....just very old, and small, and gets a huge amount of traffic each day. When they take them out of the fridge, you can see the thinly sliced steak on trays for all to view. The rolls, the oil, the onions, the cheese....all top quality Steve's isn't a bad sandwich, but somebody should clean up and mop more ofter too much spilled catsup, cheesewhiz etc.all over the counters and floor. Ugh! Cheesewhiz is for peoplewho think McDonalds makes a good burger ![]() Oh yeah...and the razor sliced, slimey pickles need to disappear too
