Default very rough day

I lost my mom early this morning. didn't sleep much last nite, made the run to NC on autopilot thru tears. My poor dad is a complete wreck. this is one of the hardest days of my life.... been a lot of tears, some fond memories, and a bunch of hectic phone calls to family and friends (having to re-tell the story nearly every time, which hurts even worse...) I am hurtin' fellas. Don't know why I'm posting, I guess I just need to vent...

damn.

Very sorry for your loss Harry. I lost my Dad 8 years ago, Mom is still fine. It is nothing you are ever really prepared for, even though we all know it is inevitable, and eventual.

It is just one of those things that only time heals. Hold on to the fond memories, they will help sustain you.

Hang in there Harry things will get better. Remember your Mom for all the good times you spent with her over the years. She is now in a better place and take care of your Pop.

Sorry to hear of your loss Harry, Remember all the good times and the great memories. I am sure your mom would want you to be strong for your dad. It sounds like you are going to have to be the one to help him through this tough time. It seems to be tougher for men, as they always expect to wives to out live them. Sincere Sympathies, everything will work out through time.

Lost my Dad this April at 89 years old, he was my fishing buddy right to the end. He put a rod in my hands at age 6. Even at that age when teenagers wouldn't talk to there parents I was climbing over a jetty with him at 3 in the am. Feel your pain. Good Luck and prayers.

So sorry to hear the sad news Harry. Chin up my friend. We all have you in our thoughts and prayers. Like others have said. Remember all those sweet moments you had. They will be with you forever.

This was written by a fellow angler years back. Just before he lost his fight with cancer at age 28. I have held on to it. It still makes me smile and makes me realize the important things in life that we all often forget.

BROKEN LINES

I find my peace out on the sand
Beside the sea- not beyond or behind
But on the edge, on the border of foam and grit
Where sandfleas scatter among the crashing froth
And the plovers scurry along in front of each dying wave
Probing after some unseen morsel.

I find my peace in the damp salt air
Blowing in from the tropics or the Stream
Carrying aromas of fish and marsh and memory.
Days long past return as just yesterday,
Recollections triggered by a wafting scent,
Only to dissipate with the changing breeze.

I find my peace in the red-orange sun
Rising from the watery abyss once again as before,
Throwing warmth and brilliance against morning clouds
An endless fantasy fueled by fire-
The phoenix rising again to fly across the sky
And plunge back into the depths.

I find my peace casting among the breakers
With the same hopes of those who fished before me:
The limitless optimism and simple faith
That some morsel of bait or metal trinket
Will bring the surging run of a bull redfish
Or the glimmer of a seatrout in the wash.

I find my peace in thoughts of days gone by
Time spent with friends I may never see again
Images fill my mind on the flood tide,
And with the rising sun, and on the evening breeze
Scenes that can never, will never be repeated
But each time there is one less memory.

Someday the sun will rise, the breeze will blow,
The plovers will run along the tideline,
And I will be just a memory on the breeze.
Perhaps some passing fisherman will see my face
Briefly in the foam, before it scatters on a new wave,
And find his peace out on the sand.

- R. A. Britt

Harry,
It pained me to read your post. I dread that day. My thoughts are with you and your father.

Harry that sucks.

Heart goes out to you.

My mom and dad both turned 80 and both are running really slow.

Anything I can do let me know.
