Well, the wife was off to a concert with her sister, probably spending the night. My 16 year old daughter was set to go with a friend and her mom to Atlantic City to hear a choir concert that her other friend was in, and she was set to sleep over, too. So my son, age 10, and I packed up and headed for IBSP. Didn't get far, though. My daughter calls, her friends mom came home from work early with flu symptons, cancelled her sleep over. Could she just hang out at the house with her 18 year old boyfriend??? HELL NO!!! So we turned around half hour into the drive and we're all hanging out watching movies.
Well, at least I heard from my wife. When she heard what happened she said I should keep the truck packed and take my son tomorrow immediately after his soccer game. But for tonight I'm stuck home. Gee, I thought when they got to this age they didn't need babysitting anymore, lol.

SteveW, I totally feel your pain! I took a couple of days off work so I could get in some solid fishing trips in... both night & day. I spent all day yesterday psyched about going fishing later that night. BUT WAIT! The wife tells me she has a viewing to go to...! WHO GOES TO A VIEWING FOR 4 HOURS!!? "Oh, we went out for a bite to eat afterwards". I was so pissed.... it was like I became completely deflated. I actually got really pissy & anxious that I couldn't go. I had to ask myself... "Am I nuts for letting myself get so upset bc I can't go fishing?" I don't know, maybe its just me... but I had to actually calm myself down over it... is this wrong. Anyone else ever feel this way? Our wives, girlfriends... whatever, they just don't understand. These precious months during the "fall run" are what we look forward to all year long. I can really get myself in a heep when I hear the fishing is hot... and I'm... STUCK AT HOME!!

Yeah, I had set the day up for it, too. Stayed late a few work nights and went in early today so we could get a jump. If I'd known, I'd have gone last night instead but my son wasn't able to go then. I ALMOST told my daughter to get changed and jump in the truck, but she'd have been miserable.
Generally, my wife and kids are pretty good, but you're right, they don't understand the fall run.

Steve, having now 3 adult daughters I can tell you I feel your pain.
And no, it doesn't get easier, sometimes for quite a while. But at least your wife understands the need for you to get your son out there... it's a prime time age for him.. I can still remember everything done with my son (also now an adult) at 10 on... once he gets his driv. license you (as the dad) tend to become a non-entity for a while (except for 'Dad, can I borrow .....' fill in the blank with $$, cars, whatever' ) As to the fall run, I gave up getting upset over not getting out a few years ago... I think of fishing as a marathon, not a sprint and I plan over the long run to intercept a LOT of fish without stepping on the ones I love... so sometimes it's meant not getting out (like this week) for a blitz that I know is ON because of other family obligations. And anyhow... in NJ the last few years some real cows are available in the spring...so don't fret

Well I was caught by surprise, and it was a bit disappointing, but no regrets. Nice night at home, they stuck around until 8 then they went to hang out a friends house with other teens (and a reliable parent). My son and I watched a movie and had dinner with them then kick alien but on the video system after they left.
Now we're packed and heading out to IBSP for the evening. ![]()
