forget invasive, humans are invasive!!! excuse us all if your that good a fisherman that you think you can just kill a species of fish. some spots their invasive others their apleasure. let them live. people do more damage to waters than fish do.

ha all good brotha..
Yeah it's tough for me to really weigh on this issue, given that almost 100% of the aquatic ecosystems I've ever fished in the Northeast U.S. have been completely changed by European settlement here over the past 400 years. 'Invasive Species' is a sprawling term. |

Go to Africa during mating season...I'm sure then you'll see what a tiger nut is.

I have been enjoying reading this thread and figured i'd throw in my 2 cents on some of the subjects brought up (the good stuff not the name calling that i giggle at)
first, i worked out west in fisheries restoration and have been involved in projects like the one in Utah. you can remove all of the carp in a lake, it is not that hard and not that expensive compared to benifit, as someone said earlier you kill everything (fish). the reason they are doing this in utah is to restore the lake back to what they were historically, cutthroat trout fisheries. these lakes in the west are trophy (10 lb+ not uncommon) wild cuthroat waters that are destination fisheries that bring in big cash to the surrounding communities. that is one reason why the states put money into these projects. second, i like many once thought that carp were stupid bottom feeding fish not worthy of an anglers time and effort, i have come to understand how wrong i was. carp are the "smartest" fish in freshwater. they are not scavangers or detritivors they are true predators that will hunt and eat anything and everything that lives in and around the water. they have greater senses than all other fish, only they possess specialized cells along their lateral line that allow them to detect the slightest vibration from great distances. they also have better eyesight than other freshwater fish, and better chemorecptors than any other freshwater fish. All of this means that they are tough not to spook, and would explain why some noticed it was hard to catch other fish around them, when they spook so will the other fish around them, that is instinct. so when you chuck your favorite spinner bait for bass, you might be scaring the hell out of the carp and the bass are reacting to that. Look for some writings on carp by Dave Whitlock, a professional fly angler and author, it might not make you a carp fisherman (i don't fish for them) but it might change your opinon on this GAME fish and i think i just covinced myself to target them this summer.
