You are better off using a low diameter spectra line. It will give you better sensativity and allow you to reach bottom with less line scope due to the low diameter.

You will want to spool up with a little more then 900 feet if your planning on fishing over the drop off.

In 2006, dacron is a big mistake, the diameter is too large and it floats, that means much more weight. Braided spectra on the other hand is very thin, I have held bottom in 600 with 16 ounces, plus you can put more on a reel

Juu,
The Dacron will cause too much drag, resulting in having to use excess weight..Go with Power Pro or any other type of small diameter braid.

Good Luck.

I used a Torium 16 with 65lb braided and it worked well on tiles...if you have the right rod(e.g Butterfly raeted for 65-200lb braid) you can use it to jig tuna as well....900 should be plenty...good luck man

yes it would work. Most guys use smaller high speed reels with 80 braid. Only because its lighter to hold.

Dacron is the wrong thing for sure, wait till you have reel up a few times using 3 or 4 pounds of weight when those around you are using half that much.

listen to the boys and remove the dacron. it would be a waste of your offshore time. just spool the dacron onto something (coke bottle?) and save it for trolling. you drfinately want small diameter braided line. I've been using Power pro but a lot of guys complain of "random" breakage (I've had my share of breaks too). supposedly due to nicks/damage... make sure you look at the diameter of the line (spiderwire is actually pretty thick as far as braided lines go because it has a jacket. I have a couple of cod/deep drop reels but latest and happy is an okuma Convector CV 55S (think better than my Diawa Saltist 50H cause the Okuma spool is so much bigger). And I like to use my 8' codrod but also use a 7' roller rod. be sure to use heavy terminal tackle/leader. tiles not too shy and I've broken off two big fish on the bottom (suspect both swords, one definately a sword cause it swam from bottom to top twice in the fight).
