Josh, same here. 99% of the people I meet when fishing are very cool, but like you, I rarely run into people anymore as I am either fishing our super duper top secret spot () or more likely I am fishing overnight.

As far as the dick that was reserving spots, I wasn't about to kick his ass and get into a fight over it, I made my case, told him what I thought of his move, and continued fishing. Caught a 38" that day So it actually worked out for the better. I didn't see anyone pull anything except doggies from the supposed honey hole that was being reserved.

Btw Josh, hit me up when you get your skiff in the water.

Had the same thing happen to me...I couldn't believe it We ended
up crossing lines after I went back to fishing and he never said a word. It
was frustrating, but somewhat humorous looking back on it. Miles of open
beach and two grown men standing shoulder to shoulder trying to fish

Yesterday I arrived at a "spot" and there were already a handful of fisherman giving it a shot. Although it wasn't where I really was looking to fish, I set up about 25 yards away from another angler and started tossing plugs and jigs. Not too long thereafter, I see a couple guys walking out. Imagine my surprise when one of them comes wading out and sets up about 7 yards to my left? Shortly thereafter, his buddy sets up about the same distance on my right! Well, although I am quite certain they knew I was not happy I didn't actually get verbal. Rather, after about 5 minutes of this abuse I simply left that sacred water to them, and moved a couple hundred yards away from them - and a good 30/40 yards above the other guys out of respect for their space.

I honestly hope these two knuckle heads, and anyone else who does this reads this post. Have some common courtesy guys, and if you do my guess is you just might be rewarded. For the record, within 10 minutes of my move I dropped a bass and caught a fluke. As the two guys that mugged me know well, I proceeded to bang 1/2 dozen bass while they caught ZERO. Coincidence? - maybe. Justice, yes!

Please folks, I know there are many more anglers these days. However, if you hit a spot and it is crowded - sorry but find another spot. There is a lot of water out there, and the fish do indeed spread out. Besides that, it's just plain rude to crowd a fellow fisherman that has already established his slice of water. I can only hope that the two guys that did this to me yesterday simply didn't know better, and it wasn't that they just don't care! However, something tells me it's the latter.
Lucky it Wasn't me i would of put bait rods on both sides of you and cast one up tide of you and one down tide of you, i have become quite the clammer you know!

Unhappy Mug gers

LAST YEAR my friend and I set up on the banks at the end of 7 bridges about 50 ft apart no one for a mile. Here came a she & he slanty eye and they set their gear right against ours and she stands within 5 feet of me on the same bog.He digs up the mud with a stick and retrieves a few green crabs saying -me forgot tool. I CATCH A 15 INCH TOG on a gulp minnow. he says what you use- i say this- as I remove gulp and hook. He says no true no bite that! I turn around and she is where I just caught the tog (in sneakers) so i move 2 inches from her feet-she now moves 3 feet away.Him 5 feet. Two more far easterners come and exchange gibberish looking at my fish and they moved 200 yards away.
Within a half hour he caught a minus 14 inch-er and kept it and we left. 2

The best was one night I was fishing longport jetty near low tide and I was on the rocks at the bottom of the jetty and some guy walks up on top of the jetty and starts casting over my head. Said a few quick words and walked off. I could not believe it.

Andy,
I heard that that a guy from West Chester knew me. I heard you smacked them pretty good. I got there around 11 and picked up were you left off.

Hey Andy good to hear your out and about,, were still up
North finishing the SKI season ,, MTN closes today. supposed
to be out and about next week in our usual places. As for
muggers i've personally never had a problem with a knowledgeable
fisher-person setting up close to me, i mean not 5 feet but
reasonable distance , 30 feet is acceptable as long as they are
throwing lures or plastics and not tossing bait. I really can say I have
not met any of these guys that are rude or a total pest while out
on the beaches. Maybe i've just been lucky.. Hope you have a great
season and we run into each other soon.

I have been reading the reponses to this and kind of have to laugh. Over the years living here i have met alot of out of towners and for the most part have never had problems with them. However, from the standpoint of a year round resident, its no different then when i pull up to one of my spots and its loaded to the hills with out of state plates. My view is this if they were there first deal with it. We have to coexist with eachother and there is plenty of water out there, learn to read the beaches better.

Fishing, just like everything else on the planet, has it's share of low-character individuals.

It's just like the people who are in the check out line and continue to shop, people who don't let you merge when driving, Obama supporters and about a thousand other behaviors that are self-centered.

Idiots are a fact of life.

is exactly what that would of caused. I fished the Point regularly when I lived in NC and have no problem standing shoulder to shoulder knowing I won't cross their line. And unless it was private and he owned it I wouldn't be going anywhere.
I agree if no one is there its open, no saving spots like a seat...Mikey

Last fall in South Jersey I was having a fairly good day all by myself. Got down and set up early, landing fish at a rate of about 2 an hour. The guy about 100 yards to the south of me is slowly but surely making his way north toward my set-up. Every fish I put on the beach he makes it closer and closer until he is eventually 15 feet away. As if this wasn't bad enough, he proceeds to move out and throw his bait. Comes back and spikes his rod, picks up a plugging stick and starts to make his way back out. I am re-baiting at the time and when I turn around he is literally standing DIRECTLY in front of my line and sand spike in waist to chest deep water, plugging away.

Since he is standing about where I cast from, I make my way out ready to hurl the bait and I walk up right next to him. I looked at him for a minute, waiting for him to say something and ask him what exactly he is doing. He proceeds to tell me that "he didn't notice that was right where I was fishing." I looked at him completely puzzled and asked if he notice me catching fish and he acknowledged. I told him I was confused since I hadn't moved at all and he hadn't noticed that I was fishing there, but managed to move closer and closer with every fish he saw me catch. He had no reasonable explanation and I guess he just figured he was older than me and could do what he wanted.

After my next re-bait I moved down the 100 yards to where he was fishing initially and put a 37" fish on the beach. Packed it up, drove by and said "damn man, guess you should have stayed down there huh?”

Now, it was a total chuckball move to get that close to me, but people are so ridiculous. It is not about the exact spot, it is your technique, bait, set-up and most importantly, your rig. I would have given him advice on any of those essential components of a fishing expedition, but all he wanted to do was jump in my grave. So Silly - if he would have just switched up his approach he could have caught fish all up and down that beach, rather than chasing me and making himself look stupid.

Just my .02 - the spot (as in 30 yards of one specific spot) is about the 3rd - 4th most important aspect. Behind your rig, bait and ability to read the surf.

Its these productive posts that make the barn so great. You had nothing better to do than that? Really? Thats pathetic. After reading through your post history, it seems that you are limited to one sentence. I guess that's all your thinking at that particular time? Well, your very good at capturing that thought into word.
Glad its amusing to some
