rod storage question

hello, i would like to get some input on way you guys store your rod and reels, i am organizing my garege and would like to store my rods on the wall, any one have any pics of home made racks etc... thanks nick

I have been dealing with this issue recently as well. For rods of 7ft or less its easy, I just use the Berkely vertical wall mounted rod racks. The problem I am having is the surf rods (I have a lot). I have been looking for a horizontal wall rack that lets you clip the rods in on both sides. I can't find one. They all seem to have a hole on one side and a clip on the other except for the really cheap ones with the foam as the holder (with those the foam slit isn't big enough to fit larger surf rods). I would love to find a floor-to-ceiling horizontal rack with clips on both sides.

i built one in my garage that hangs from the ceiling you need 2 6 foot 2x4s and 8 hook and 4 1 foot long peices of chain put the hooks in the edge of the 2x 4 then in the ceiling and link them with the chain and done you have a rod holder that will hold 20 or so rods if any one wants some pics just email me at wishiniwasbassfishin@msn.com the whole thing costs about 12 dollars and a half hour of your time and it keeps the rods out of harms way

I have a t bracket that hangs from the ceiling that works well, you can get them at Lowes. I have 3 hanging and it will hold 4 rods. Also I have several wall hanging racks that work good but not for surf rods.

Built a cabinet against the studs of the garage wall - main frame/body extends maybe 12" with 2 4X8 doors that are framed with 2x4 that have piano hinges on the outside. Heavy offshore gear stands on sill (lightly coutnersunk) b/t studs, tips pop into those rubber clips to keep them standing. Lighter offshore outfits hang vertical on wall elevated a bit from the heavier stuff. 4 sets of Berkely rod racks on the inside of the doors where all the lighter bait and spin outfits sit.

We have 1" black pipe hanging 6" or so from the garage ceiling on threaded rods. Each pipe is about 5 feet long hanging parallel to each other. I think we have 20 or so rods on it right now.

I store my rods on the cealing. I screwed bicycle hooks into 2 1x4's and then screwed each 1x4 into the ceiling. I also painted the 1x4 white with a can of spray paint to help it blend in better. I have 2 sets of these on the ceiling of my garage. The total cost for hanging 16 rods was around $25.00, 32 bike hooks, 1 12 ft long 1x4, and 1 can of white spray paing. It works well for me, but if I was only 2 inches taller I could reach my rods with a step stool.

Old plastic rain gutter suspended from ceiling to support whole length of rod.
Use down spout to protect fly rods.

This is exactly how I do it i just hung them yesterday. Does anyone spray them with wd40 or something else along those lines?

Mine are stored that way-just take reels off rods
