Lots of guys have 4 or 5 great years and then something happens. Not saying it will happen to utley, but he's only halfway there, and the second half is harder to accomplish than the first half.

Not saying Utley wouldn't deserve it. He doesn't do subway or shaving cream commercials. Not famous enough for hall of fame.

And I never understood how a guy who's been retired for five years misses out on first ballot, then gets in later. He didn't get any more HRs or Ks during that time. Too much bs.

Utley has a better chance than Rollins or Howard. There aren't that many 2nd basemen with the power he has, and he has speed and a good career average. He's still got several years of his prime to go. He's also a lock to represent the NL as an All Star each year too because he's a reliable (and always improving) defender. The fact that the Phillies are winning helps them all get noticed. The real shame is Jason Werth. If he had sprouted instead of gotten that hand injury that year he would be mentioned in this conversation...but maybe he wouldn't be on the Phillies either.

Jeter and Rivera should be first ballot shoo-ins. Class and talent.

Nick Swisher....not so much!

Yo guys, the man has something like a .290 batting average so far over 6 seasons or so. HE AIN'T A FLASH IN THE PAN! Allstar team addition several times, plays ALL OUT every time I see him.
Anyone can get hurt and screw their careers up. I'm saying that IF he stays healthy - he's alock!!!!

Utley has more of a chance then you guys are giving him credit for.

Not that many GREAT second baseman in baseball history (when compared to other postions)

If this Phills team gets another WS - this year or not - a few of these guys will get in. Most noteably I would say Howard and Utley.

You're all delusional Yankee/Philly fans!

I'd like to nominate the entire 2009 New York Mets lineup to the hall of fame.

HAHA! Good One.

I figured with no game tonight I'd try and lighten the mood and put things in perspective from a Mets fan point of view.

I don't plan on seeing the Mets in the WS for years to come

Glad you have a sense of humor about it!

I was really enjoying the rivalry building between the Philthies and Mutts. I actually felt a twinge of disappointment that the Mets vanished early on. I know - not as much disappointment as Mets fans, right?

A Roid - No way. If he does its a disgrace and slap in the face to all who never juiced. Steroid = Cheating.

Jeter - Yes
Dracula - No doubt, best closer EVER.
Tex - No
CC - No

Howard - Yes
Lee - maybe
Hamels - no
Utley and Rollins - need at least another 5 years playing at a high level

What's funny about A-roid is a few years back there was a small thing on ESPN where many players (including Bonds) said they think A-roid would be the one to break the career home run record - and that he was clean. Whoopsie! How many of them would like to retract their statements now?

NO whats funny about A-Roid is everyone in NY f"ing thinks its ok because he admitted it and came clean .....AFTER HE GOT caught. I personally love the "You do steroids" chant. Especially when you hear it on National TV and not one announcer makes a comment about it. He may be a great player...but he cheated! Sorry, lets keep this good thread on track.

No one that ever tested positive for banned performance enhancing drugs should ever get into the Hall of Fame.

I'm thinking Pedro has a chance of getting into the HOF also. Not only does he have a great career and love the big stage, he gets my vote for the best Jerry curl !

Has a chance?!?

Any writer that does not put Pedro in on the first ballot should have his vote taken away. Pedro's numbers are "Koufaxian". There is no debate that he is one of the greatest pitchers of all time. He's still nothing more than a filthy Red Sock, but I have to give credit where it is due.

He gets into the Hall based only on his 7 years with the Sox. The numbers are insane.

You were not even alive when Koufax retired; or still pooping in diaper. Pedro will get in but he can't be compared to Koufax or even Gibson.

Jeter and Rivera are first ballot shoo-ins. ARod will get in HOF, maybe not on first ballot. You putting Pettit and/or Mussina in, you gotta consider Blylevin!

No current Phillie qualifies. Howard needs to get to 500+ homeruns. Barring injury, Utley will be a first balloteer. Consistency, power, RBIs, fielding and professionalism will assure that. Rest of current Phillies - no way.

100% in agreement. Pedro is one of the best that ever stepped on the mound.
