Went on a road trip today to see if we could find this lake, found it, had to hike back to see it, no ramp or access roads yet, Gin clear water, only SMB's, it looks really sweet and the best thing is its going to be a catch and release lake till 2012 than it will be reaccessed,
At the risk of winding up a few, I thought I'd bring this back up. Regarding Jan 1 get-together, I have a weakness for good college football games (and NFL) and being that the bowl games will be on all day, I ain't gonna be there. However God willin', the creeks don't rise, weather permitting and if I still haven't sold my Jonboat I will be there Jan 2. Anyone else?
Mike
I'm pretty sure you could probably launch at the make shift ramp they used when doing the restoration project. Most of the entrances are blocked off and it would be a pain to drag a jon around them.
I"ll see if I can find out more about the ramp..but let's not post anymorea bout this "gem". Don't need people whoring out my private smallmouth bass sanctuary on the WWW.
Just got back from audrey, someone apparently thought they'd contribute their old boat to the structure sites. There's an old beat up boat at the "temporary" ramp that someone dropped off. There's also a wasted striped bass at the ramp, it's filleted, with the fillets laying next to it in the water. Will post pics later.
I was told that there are some stripers in there. A small population was released in there. Hopefully it will get like out west in there.:thumbsup:
I heard there were stripers released in there A LOOOONG time ago when they were still dredging it. But since then the PH got out of wack however a guy I know said that they never actually saw any dead fish..or smelled any. He said the fish just seemed to stop biting and that was the end of it.
Actually guys, upon further inspection of my pix, the filleted fish might just be a blue fish, however the striper fillets were full of meat. I was looking at them wondering how someone could waste perfectly good meat. Stripers are delicious!

From one of the locals I talked to, that boat was actually put in further up the lake and drifted tothat location. Apparently there is also another boat that was dropped off there also..I didn't see that one.

I didn't really go too far, I was on my way home from the shooting range and stopped by real quick to snap some pix. If you notice where that old boat is, that's the TEMPORARY launching site, they put a sign right in t e middle of it.
We spent a good 2 hours exploring that place, we parked and walked the dirt roads that have the wood piles barracading them, walked back through the gate to where the perm ramp is suppose to go, got turned around in the woods a couple times, than found the land management place, tried to talk to Mr. Lee but he was out so we walked around a little more.
I try to stop out there once every couple weeks just to see if anything new has started. It is disheartening seeing that people are already trashing the place..but it's not far from Laurel Lake so it was expected.
Last summer they had something going on and the road back to where the "ramp" is going to be at open. The road and parking itself isn't bad...didn't really check out the launch area..maybe I'll drive down and try to get some pix.
The road back to the ramp is fine, the launching area is questionable. It looks soft..I'd be hesitant without a 4x4. I'll be there the 4th so if anybody has problems I can pull you out or use my truck to launch.
