On Monday, January 2, Renegade Sportfishing hosted another open boat bass trip. We took the 20 mile ride south back to Barnegat Inlet arriving at first light to only find dirty water and a few surf anglers pulling some shorts.
Looked around for the next 3 hours covering 60+ miles, finally found the jackpot of large bass right off the beach migrating south and feeding hard on adult herring. Large gannets and sea gulls diving for miles. Herring being tail slaped like the spring bunker run. Largest school of bass I have seen in a very long time. Hopefully Nick can post the video. Wind was cranking at 30-35 knots all day which is what they wanted.
The crew were locked up for hours using the new Ultra Large Jersey Jay Krocs, plain silver, white was not as good. The 9" tsunami shads were also deadly. Easily boated and released 80 + bass up to 40 pounds and left them biting at 1pm. Geno even called at 4pm to report the bite is still on without a boat in site. The entire crew kept 8 smaller fish for the table and released all the larger fish which are all full or roe. Interesting to note even the smaller bass are ripe to spawn.
Open boat daily, only $120pp - call 732-718-8339 to reserve - obviously it's far from over. Please see the open boat thread for full trip details.
