    Default 7/22 Report

Hit a local reef today on Buddy eds boat before wind came on. 0/4 fluke 1 baby hammerhead and we think a cobia that busted me off after 30 seconds

saw the cobia under surface and feed them chunks of bait that they liked. Threw a bucktail with a twister far ahead of them but not a sniff. we got them near the boat again and took weight off squid fluke rig with the bait they liked and floated back till couldn't see it then off it ran peeling drag twice. I was fishing with a diawa lexa with 20 lb test . after second run surfaced big splash and gone.

The 2 hard runs made me think cobia as we didn't see any sharks save the hammerhead that I caught on bottom

    water temps 78

i found out how powerful a Cobia is on Saturday. Had one follow a Rattle Trap to the boat from near a Pot buoy. Luckily he didn’t strike the Rattle Trap, that would of ended quickly. So I picked up the rod I was bucktailing Flounder with and I immediately hooked up. Even that outfit was too lite thou, this fish was easily 25 lb, maybe close to the 40” limit. Anyway, after 5 times getting this thing to the boat only to watch it turn around I made a rookie mistake by applying thumb pressure to the spool and broke off at the leader. It was cool thou!

Bring a green Cobia into the boat and you will regret that also.

How big was the baby hammerhead? What did you catch him on?

Have never seen one in the wild - would love to.

No protection outside 3mi, just 40in or more. Need a min of 50lb shock leader and a 6500 on a stout 7'.
