I like it from end of April on. Some sooner, a few (mostly natives) now. Most think it will be a good season.
Ron, when do the Tarpon start coming in down your way? Are they predicting it will be any later given the weather this year?
Finally had a small window of calm before the storm. Got out Friday around 230PM & until dark had a nice stake out & drift along the edge of a Gulf flat. Several gorgeous sea trout on a swamp bunny. Friend had some on jig & plastic & I had a roll on a surface plug. Great to be out after all the lousy wind & weather we have had. Water temp 63.8. Today Sat. back to rain & wind.
Got down last weekend to see the folks and get some fishing in. Water around Naples/Rookery was 63 degrees so had to work for the snook. Good action on ladyfish and trout thoughout the weekend. Picked this one up at night. Was encouraged by the number of snook I saw. It will be interesting to see when the water warms how many come back in from the gulf and the deep holes. Should have booked a one way ticket....can't believe we are getting another ten inches here tonight and tomorrow.
Rob, good to meet you last night at the SJCFA meeting and put a face with the name.
Shouldn't do as much damage to the lines, practicing in the snoww. :-) (sorry, couldn't resist that.)
Looking forward to meeting you tomorrow at the SJCFA meeting. Just got word that the parking lot was plowed. Not as much room to park as usual but it looks good enough so all systems are a go.
Ray, I plan on making it tomorrow night... barring some family disaster, which thankfully has been happening less and less
Ron, finally a report .... 58 sounds real nice to me about now
Thought I'd give a report. 2 days ago the chinese wind abated enough for us to sneak out a bit. Backcountry was VERY slow @ 58 degrees. On the reef some had 71 degrees & good fish.
Rob it is at the Bay Center in Ocean City. Come into Ocean City over the 9th street bridge and make a left on to Bay Ave. and go down maybe 5 blocks and it is on the left hand side. It is right across from a big ball field. It is a big building that looks like a house. Meeting starts at 7:00 pm but most of us get there around 6:30 pm. www.southjerseycoastalflyanglers.com they have picture and instructions on how to get there.
Stop buy and check us out.
where is the meeting this Thursday night?
Like they say tough fishing in warm weather is better than no fishing up north. Not that much fun when you have to wear winter clothes when in Fla. Should of stayed another month and maybe the snow would be gone, but the way we are going, it may still be around.
Don't forget we have a fly club meeting this Thursday night. I hope they plowed the parking lot.
Just got back to Jersey from coupla weeks down there. Fished out of Islamorada one day and had (amongst 3 guys) a sail, 5 king macks, coupla mutton snappers and several small grouper throwbacks. Plenty of bait. Nobody fishing back bays. Caught a little barracuda from oceanfront dock. Went over to Ft Myers beach/Sanibel and fishing inshore dead, and heard reports you had to go 30+ miles into gulf to score - and that was impossible with high winds. Wore a lot of winter clothes down there. Great to be back - had to get guy to plough out so could get car up to garage to unload, and spent solid days digging to get walks. Tomorrow - chain saw on downed trees, branches etc. Fortunately nothing fell on boat parked, covered, on driveway. Was Florida worth it? Definitely.
Thanks! ...sorry to hear that...maybe snow is doing me a favor.
Nothing except Chinese wind. How Ling. :-)
