The Neuse and Trent Rivers have a lot of fishy spots in the New Bern area but most of them are only accessible by boat. NC Sportsman magazine has done a few pieces on the area that are available via Google etc. Check out Gary Dubiel at Spec Fever Guide Service or George Beckwith at Down East Guide Service. Also, if you're going to be there, ask about Roanoke River shad.

Never fished there, but attended a wedding in New Bern right on the water. They had heavy rainy weekend. I intended to fish but rain was heavy along with the winds. It felt like it would blow you away with 4 foot waves in the river. Did talk to some anglers and they said the fishing was very good with a lot of variety. Fishing is better in a boat as you can fish more structure. Was told it can be good from shore around the train bridge that goes over water right there in New Bern. It is an active track so if you walk out on it there is no place to hide when a train comes.

It looked like one of those places that would be great to fish. Will be interesting to see how you make out.
