Broke the inlet just before 6:00 to nice seas but stiff wind. Couldn't make my mind up on which way to go so made a right and found some peanuts which had some fish. Filled a bonus tag and boxed a 32" before sun came up but it dried up. Went back just past SRI at sunrise and got a few more fish(our 2 man limit+ bonus tags filled now) then the boats started to show up. Everyone went north so we got a few miles up the beach to get in front of them but didn't like the amount of life. Peanuts seemed to be running down the beach at a fast clip so we went south a few miles and waited them out. By 8 it was lights out fishing/catching, Peanuts flying all over. Bass rolling on surface and eager to bite just about anything that was smallish. Guys on the beach catching, bass pushing peanuts onto beach. Thousands of gulls everywhere but the peanuts flying were your best bet for catching.
We stayed tight to beach for comfort and to stay away from the fleet. Seemed like every party boat from the Miss Barnegat Light north was in the 100+ boat fleet offshore about 2 miles. Highlight of the day was getting a double of a 25"er and my new PB 48lbs on a shimano 3000 stradic. She did barely bottom out my 50lb scale but I'm not 100% sure it was 50lbs so 48 it is. After about 25-30 fish mostly 30"s we decided to get back early so we started towards the barn around 10:30. Put out some mojo's and a shad umbrella, finally got my first troll fish on the umbrella rig w/ 8oz drail in front of it.
Other then the 1 troll bite the rest were on tsunami 6" heavy/regular weight white or green shads. If we had the 5" shads we probably would of done better. Tried 5" gulp paddle tails but no love and no confidence even tho our shads were double the size of the bait.
