I test drove a 2009 Ford F150 XLT with 14,000 miles tonight. The new 6 speed transmission was a mess. It shifted alot, and couldnt seem to find the proper gear. The actual shift between 1st and 2nd took to long, almost like a slip. I read online about some problems with the 6 speeds but would like to hear from some Barners about their experiences?

I am not a fan of Fords what so ever but I like the new 150. I have borrowed my friends a few times and it really is a nice truck. It had decent power, rode nice, I did not notice any trans problems. I think he has about 15k on it. Another friend has one of the previous models and I hate that truck, other than riding nice I cannot say anything good. I think Ford did good on the newest 150/

I have a 2006 F150 FX4 that I bought NEw in Jan of '07. I love the truck and I got 39,000 miles on it already but get this......The motor started making a humming/whinning sound and I took it in to get fixed (still under warranty) The mechanic fixed the problem a pump in the transmission was going bad. Cost for the gaskets and pump labor if the warranty expired would have been over $1,000.00. The truck does shift alot when I'm towing my little 17'cc down to the bay. These trucks are gas hogs, 12-14 mpg and when gas goes up to $3+ a gallon.....OUCH it hurts. Everyone has their preforances on car/truck brands but I like Ford because they didn't ask for any "Bail out money"

97 f250 has 200,000 and never a major repair . Test drove a 09 150 and heard a clicking in the transmission and questioned the salesman . He told me it was due to a low battery . I bought a dodge and now have 15,ooo on it . So far a great truck . I still think ford is a good truck .

have a 09 f-150 xlt supercrew(the loong one, its in my sig pic) with 5500 miles purchased in july with 400mi. so far no complaints love it. i understand what you are saying with the 6 speed tranny it is different but youll get used to it after a while there is nothing wrong with it. the low 1st gear gives you a good jump off the line but it is a tough 1st-2nd shift. good for towing though. eats up 2ft+ of snow great 4x4. hope this helps

If I was in the market it would be also looking for a ford super crew. I have a 07 (that I baught used with 20k on it) Expedition with 40,000 miles. I love the truck! I had a problem when I first purchased it with the trans, which turned out to be a computer problem...that was 20,000 miles ago. so far so good!

on the 09s there is no OD on or off. the gear selections are P R N D 3 2 1. with the 6 speed tranny you woldnt use 3 like in other trucks because i believe this either activates only third gear or gears 1-3 out of the 6. instead this truck has a tow/haul mode on the shifter column where the OD on/off selector can be found on other trucks. if you follow this link and scroll down it has a brief explanation on the tow/haul mode http://www.fordf150.net/2009/2009-ford-f150-special-features.php

There is a TSB that pertains to this, basically it requires a reflash of the PCM & TCM then an on road drive strategy to relearn everything. Its a software problem in the PCM that affects the TCM output, simple fix, takes about an hour to do it between shop time with the reflash and the drive strategy. We see it in some of the 6R66 transmissions. Its free of charge if the vehicle is within the base warranty period, and on a 09 it is 5/60,000 on the powertrain. Great trucks, highly recommend them. If I were buying a non-superduty vehicle today, 1500 series truck, I would only look at the Ford, both the F150 if I needed a pickup and the Expedition if I needed a SUV. I drive a Tahoe, and love it, but not really impressed with government motors new stuff(again, dealing only with light duty vehicles), I still like the GMC & Chevy super duties much better than the Ford.

Good luck.
