I will make sure the NJ marine fisheries council receives the results during the up coming March meeting.

I would never be happy unless they extended the season into November. Which I doubt I'll ever see.
This is a tough poll for me as I exclusively fish the ocean for fluke. For the last 5 years the best fluking for me has been in November and December when I wasn't even targeting them.

I feel the same way....
This poll (as all of bennyslandings polls have ever been)
is incomplete. Why cherry pick only 6 of the twelve proposals currently out there?

Of course, right up until the meeting proposals can be added or withdrawn, it was only the methodology that was approved by the ASMFC, not 6 specific options.

I voted option 2 because if we have hurricanes near the end of season it will kill the fluke fishing.

To gain 10 days of fishing and to give up a 1/2 inch to 18 1/2 is INSANE! A lot of nice fluke under 18" are going to be killed and make a lot of fat crabs happy.

Then next year we do the same thing, vote to gain more fishing days and then add another 1/2 inch to 19 inch. WTF.
voted for option of taking season to september 26th--not because i'm willing to give them the 1/2" but i really want the extended season..
absolutely no damn reason to cut it off in the beginning of september
i eat fluke alot and vacuum seal alot for the winter--sorry but for the money i spend two fish isn't even a option i'd be willing to consider--be a sportsman with tuna , shark, or other game fish--not a food staple like flounder.
there's plenty of fluke and we're in no way in a declining stock situation
bad science, bad management, and bad politics = us getting screwed! AGAIN! whatever they finally come up with is still going to be bullcrap, and in no way an equitable distribution of the resource.
I like Adam's logic, plus once you go to that 18 1/2 inch fish we will be headed down the road like New York and other states. They just keep making the size larger and larger each year and a shorter and shorter season. We have to suffer with 3 more years of MRFS data until they start using better data at best and each year our choices get worse and worse. I do not want to give them reason to make it worse faster.

With the bigger size fish they may estimate that we are catching and killing more as discards and shut the season down early. We would all like a longer season but going to a bigger size could really hurt us over the next few years.

Since thay have been regulating fluke I have not seen them drop the size limit yet. You have to think down the road on this one.

May 29 to September 6, 6 fish at 18". As much as it makes me sick tossing back 17" fluke, it'd make me really sick tossing back 18" fluke that were "shorts." Going deeper in September would be nice, but not worth the sacrifice of that extra 1/2" and lots of Septembers get shut down because of hurricanes/tropical storms.

Screw it....take what you can eat and throw the rest back.
For anyone to say they'd accept 2 fish per person is pretty silly. There are record numbers of fluke out there...more big fish than ever. How would you be satisfied with 2 fish per person? It's silly for anyone, and you would be putting a lot of charter and party boats out of business as not too many people would pay a day's fare for the chance of 2 fish per person.

We're already getting shafted with an 18" size limit. I wouldn't even think about going to 18.5". Then, next year we'll be looking at 19 and 19.5 inch limits, smaller bags, and a shorter season because we went a million pounds over our quota.
Flounder Poll

How can my vote be included in the Flounder Poll? I would like to think my vote will make a difference. However, it seems whatever the head boat captains and charter captains want, THEY GET! I really enjoy fishing in the back bays. The head boats do not fish back there and rarely do charters fish there. If raising the length to 18.5 means an earlier season, I go along with it.

Did you even read this?

WOW, is all I have to say to your post!:thumbsdown:
I can't believe May 29 - Sept 6 has so few votes. at 18". All of the choices suck but that one makes the most sense. Just my two cents. I caught my share of 18" fish last year. I'd hate to send them back.

Another country heard from!!!! :D Where you been Bonachi?? Good to see your still alive and kicking Mike..I feel sorry for the charter guys cause they are the ones that get the screws...Although I am not touting lawlessness..It is a fine line when the science is flawed...I will go by the Ed rule on the plastic boat this year...
Dates

Why not add the 6 days to the Sept. side of the plan
when the bigger fish are around, not that I like the
4 fish idea?
To Striper 2278

Being a charter captain, you have a completely different point of view than the basic recreational fisherman. When it was allowed, I really enjoyed early back bay fishing and I would certainly want to return to those days.

If the season was made longer, even with an 18.5" limit, your season for making money would also be made longer. You know better than I if a half inch difference would prevent people from chartering for flounder. I do not think so.

Neither you nor I, or any small group of us, will make a difference in what the goverment allows. The only way to stop this is through intelligent political action. You agreeing or disagreeing with me has no bearing on what the goverment says or does. Unless all of us unite and force our politicians to do what the majority of us want, NOTHING will happen and the limit will go to nineteen inches and higher. The PEW Environment Group has a great deal of money and they seem to be dictating to the Federal and State goverments NOW!

Being resentful of my "18.5 and a longer season" choice will have no effect except making you angry and ending up with indigestion!

There is only 1 acceptable solution:

- vote out and/or remove everyone in a position of influence with a hidden agenda, from Congress down to committees like the ASMFC.

- sign into law sensible, reasonable, realistic changes to Magnussen.

- accumulate reasonably accurate data and set quotas based on that info.

- understand/proove/accept that the Fluke biomass is fine.

- put regs into effect that are based on a healthy biomass.

- and then let's fish legally and responsibly from 4/15 - 10/15 for a size limit that makes sense.

The reason is the smaller bag limit buys more days in May than in September. On the September side it would be like one day.
May13-Sept.13 6 fish at 18.5"
36 .....32.43%

This is crazy how many 17 7/8 fish did you toss back last year?
WAY 2 MANY!!!!. the big flattys aren't even in yet so you really aren't gaining anything but wasting fuel and cash. :) Just my opion

I too am a backwater fisherman. I won't get indigestion...but it seems you may if the regs stay the same as last year...as that's what I'm hoping for!

And same goes for you!

How is Duke doing this year?:D
