Hey Tog,

What day are you eyeing up for the first trip of the season? Weather has been cold lately.

Was gona go tomorrow (Thurs) after work (4 PM ish) but just checked tide and low is at 3 PM so I would be fishing the first few hours of the incoming and I would think that would suck with the water temps being cold. Actually think the last few hours of the outgoing tide is best early in season as that tide allows all of the warmer water to come out of the tidal creeks and raise the river temp and get the fish on the feed.

So no go tomorrow - will save the $$$ and wait a week and hope for better weather and a conducive tide.

makes sense. I'm probably not going until April first but I think there could be some keepers in the river at this point.

He was so stoked that he went back out at 2AM to catch the same tide he caught it on.
Of course I chose to go hiking yesterday instead of accompanying him on a trip to river. Supremely jealous once I got the pic but totally happy for him!

Have not been on the barn in quite some time, but glad to see the river reports are still here to some capacity.

Had some rare free time in my calendar last week and got out three times. Used one bag of bloodworms.

First trip (3/8): Quick, maybe 1.5 hours. Outgoing tide. Skunk.

Second trip (3/9): Outgoing tide, first two stripers of the season for me. Small fish, 14”-20” range.

Third trip (3/10): Incoming tide, one catfish.

went yesterday after work and fished from 345 PM to 7 PM (dead low was 715 PM) with bloods and was disappointed in the action as I had nothing for the initial 2 hours and I mean nothing - not a nibble as worm was untouched after soaking for 30 minutes. right around 5 pm the water must have warmed as I got a few bites the resulted in 2 fat cats and 2 perch that hung themselves. Was surprised in the lack of bites from schoolies as they normally are active this early in Spring. Good news is I only used a doz bloods so I have left overs for Thursday afterwork - hopefully the rain passes as the temp is supposed to get close to 70.

I did see that bite in the ocean up in north Jersey broke open as a few headboats hammered the bass on jig so fish should be active and up int he DE river soon.

tip of the day - never underestimate how dam cold the river gets this early in the spring. Sun goes down, wind picks up = cold as you know what. Back at it tomorrow
