Snuck out from the shop to tape a show yesterday. Rental boat and a 24 inch Okuma rod and reel we picked up from Boaters World. Wanted something smaller than the 30 inch Spongebob rod from last year.

I laughed the whole time. Ended with eight keepers and fifteen throwbacks. A few of them were keepers as we tried for a bigger fish. It was our keep it basic and take the kids fishing show. All were caight on a single hook rig with a minnow. For a while it was a little slow but then it turned on. At one point the cameraman said I was hooking up just about every four and a half minutes. The drag screamed when I hooked and boated a three foot sandshark. :D

There was a private boat with a couple fishing not far away. They were skunked and getting ready to call it a day. As they moved past he yelled over that it sucked. I told him I just picked up a few keepers in this one small area. He took one look at thr rod I was using and just smiled and pulled away. I guess I wouldn't have believed it either. :D

Hey Fred, when are you going to do one with the fly rod? with a 9 1/2 foot rod? You could have 9 1/2 feet of fun. If you had fun with 24 inches you could have almost 5 times as much fun with the long rod.

Sounds like you had a lot of fun. Can't beat that bait for catching when kids are involved.

Never too young to get kids into fly fishing. I have had some young fly anglers out that can cast better than their dads.

Sweet deal, but where does Okuma get the idea to build a 24 inch rod? My plan this year is to get some of the trout rod. 5 feet of ultralite with 2 lb test. anyone do that before? i have caught snappers on it.

If someone in the boat is wearing a halter top then I just assumed. Fished Turtle Creek behind North Wildwood. Saw that rod but can't put enough line on it to get to the bottom. :D Yes we have boats for the weekend. Thanks Freaky. Fly Rod is more like a whip in my hands. One flick of the wrist and horses run. Thanks Phil. No, that would be 22 inches. :D Thanks Joe. Up yours BIGGESTDUFUS. :D When they screwed up and tried to get their new eight foot rods in a six foot box. :D

Way to go Chunking. I have an old fiberglass rod about that same length. It only had the tip guide on it so I added another about half way down. (old Daiwa Mag Force reel mounted on it that you can't lock the drag down on) I call it my Snoopy rod. You should have seen Captain Adams' (Adam Bomb)face when I jumped on board for a sea bass trip. Had a good day that day and caught the biggest sea bass of the day on it.
I will probably keep it forever and break it out now and then just for kicks.
Who has more fun than us poor people??????

Years ago while fishing off one of the Fortescue head boats the Captain would toss an ultralite with 2# test. I don't know how sucessful he was but he did try.
