Couldn't resist so i went to another pond solo today. I fished a small protected area that was cut off from the rest of the pond by some surface ice. I jigged the whole area without a touch, and then decided to rework it again with my rapala dt4 in bluegill. A lot of the casting areas of old were cut off by high water but there is some great new structure created by the recent windstorms such as this huge fallen tree. I casted another 4 or 5 spots again without a touch. I decided to try a spot right along the surface ice and some sunken brush. After the third cast i crank the bait from the ice all the way to the brush, at varying speed, with it coming in pretty fast, i slow the crank down and as it idles, floating up the water column, i see a big shadow underneath. My heart jumped as i lightly twitch the now still crankbait, and blam she turns on it and sucks it in. With only a few feet from shore, and a quick run, i wade into the water, not caring at all about wet feet, and lip her, a solid 3-4lb fish with a much bigger head than gut, she was just waking up and hungry. Im still shaking from adrenaline.Come on 2010!
