Yank and I looked at these in NC, we both thought the layout was great, and was feature packed. Not a car-topper to be sure (it's like 150# dry weight no gear) but a damn versatile craft nonetheless. Considering selling my aluminum jon..

Whatcha think??

Harry they look cool. I know some folks us yaks in Va. I have seen them flyfishing on the James and conventional guys are far as the middle span of CBBT with them. I have always be intrigued by them. But what has kept me away is you cant stand up fly cast well in them (I got a minor back injury that only gets worse sitting and casting). Plus the visibility advantage from stand casting. I can drag my 12' jon and two people lift, I dont trailer it, it slides in my truck.

I know Cory Routh in Va. does everything with yaks. On his blog he talks about a Native Ultimate 14.5 being a great backwater boat. He has pics of guys standing in them fly casting. Just a thought.

John, this can be stood up in, has no skid floor plates either side of the floor, too. I can't cast well sitting down (nor standing up for that matter!) so that's why i am thinkin about this one. Plus it has a ton of storage..

RE: Tidalfish, i'd rather pour clorox, alcohol, and sulfuric acid in my eyes... Biggest collection of knuckleheads on the interwebs. Plus, the guy that owns it, #### White is a tool IMHO. He charges a fee for everything, and you're made to feel less than welcome if you are not a paid subscriber. The info being disseminated there ain't worth 15 bucks a year. The FF forum is pretty much dominated by some real snobs too... Can't hold a candle to this one, plus all you guys are waaaaay more inclusive.

I checked out a Pro Angler before I bought my canoe last summer. I was impressed, but really needed something that I could put on top of the car.

The only thing that I would have reservations about is maybe getting fly line tangled in the Mirage Drive, either on the flippers or the pedals. Also, what about getting hung up on debris or messing up the drive in really skinny water?

Also, what happens when you want to drag it up on land to get a stretch?

Do those flippers fold away neatly?

We did look at those in NC. They're nice, real nice. Absolutly a consideration from my point of view. I have and do own a canoe and have owned a Kayak. There is certainly a peacefulness derived from floating a river/stream in absolute quiet. I'm not sure what I'll end up doing.

I fished out of one this summer. I was very impressed. It was a fast kayak and very stable. If you want to stand up and fish in a kayak the ProAngler is the one to get. George and Cathy sell them at Sterling Harbor in Wildwood.
They are good people...

Wow!!!!!! I see hanging around with:bow: has rubbed off on you. :bow:has a tendency to sugar coat things too when he is giving his opinion.

I will throw out a few places you can look for info and opinions on this machine you are looking at. New England Kayak Fishing, Yakdawgs, and Kayak Fishing Stuff. I believe the last one is a dealer, but they do reviews on stuff. Not meant to compete with an advertiser of the barn, just throwing out names of where you may get opinions on these.

I have a Wilderness Tarpon T120 angler model, older version. I need to do some seating and back support additions to it. Otherwise it is fine. You have got to prepare for comfort. This is a major point that I cannot stress enough. Otherwise you will have a backache, that you will not believe possible.Trust me here

I hear good things about these Hobies with the foot paddles, and I do believe the paddles can be locked in the up position. and a regular paddle used. When they first showed up they were around 1300. Now I think they are a couple G's. I have seen people deck kayaks out to the point they should have bought a boat. 88 pounds, is a lot to put on a roof. Maybe on a corolla it would be OK, but on an SUV, you will damage your left @$%, if you know what I mean.

I have a 17 foot Boston Whaler, that does not get used, and while I do like my kayak, they have limitations. I do not like the confinement of a kayak for storage . I like the idea of a couple lures, and a rod, and go fishing, not to try to take my entire arsenal with me.

I am giving serious thought to selling my boat, but I would not make a kayak my personal choice of floatation on the water. I would go for an 8 foot fiberglass boat with about 7.5 hp, and do inland water. I do mostly bay and estuary fishing anyway. Maybe 10 feet, but no more.

Now, as for standing up in one, I will pay money to watch , drive to wherever, and sleep in your tool shed on the straw you offered me to see that, and if given the proper notice, I will see that a crowd is drawn.:D:fighting:

Most of the guys that I know that fly fish with a kayak just use them to get to a good spot and then fish from land. Personally I do not like to sit that low to the water with fly line in my lap and stripping fly is a little more annoying. I suggest before you buy see if you can try one out or sit in it on land and try fly fishing, just to get a feel. They are really great if you are spin fishing. If it is a matter of fishing or not fishing, they are easy to move round by yourself and will get you a lot of places on the water.

I like that alot, alot. Much to think about. Sounds like the guy put alot of forethought into that boat. I'm going to contact him and ask, if you can stand in it, why not have a higher leaning post or small seat that will drop out of the way. I like the altitude but standing all day with zero support would make my blown disc scream. Maybe it comes with free lifetime supply of pain killers. If not, I'll have to design one myself.

But I do really like that. Harry, we'll have to check out both.

Thanks for he info. and if you can stand up in that model, thats very cool! I may end up getting one, I know my wife really wants a yak.

As for tidal fish, lol, that's a hoot and I agree 100% on all points. I only look in there never really post. Its a shame since its a allot Va guys but it is what it is... Yeah leaders seem to have it all figured out..... And so do allot of the other guys in there...

One of the reasons why I really like this forum, great bunch of guys, headwear aside:D.

If you and Harry get this yak. please keep us informed how they are working out and post pics of you guys using them. Any shots of you falling out of them would be a plus :D

The kayak idea is appealing. I have a friend with 2 Cobra's set up for fishing. He rarely uses them.
An alernative is the Otter Stealth. I had one for duck hunting. There are no pedals but it paddles fairly well if you sit mid-ship. It will aslo handle a 2 hp motor or an electric. YOU CAN NOT FLIP one of these, I tried. I used to stand in mine and pole it in shallow water. Some yaks you end up with your feet slightly higher than your hips, that doesn't work for me. I have not found a yak I'm comfortable standing in. I have owned 3 just for paddling.
I highly recommend the Stealth. They have 2 models, I had the 1200. The 2000 is slightly wider. Cabelas and Bass Pro both sell them. BP has a better price.
