I'm getting ready to paint the bottom of my boat for the season and I'm planning to use an ablative paint. I don't know for sure what is on there now, but I suspect it is a hard paint. Do I need to have the hull stripped down to change paint types, or can I scuff it up really good and put the ablative on top?

I use Interlux and was told to have a hard paint for the first coat. It helps if you have a different color base so you can tell when it's time to re coat. I typically get at least 2 years out of an application with touchups. I use at least 2 coats of micron every 2-3 years. From your posts you seem to use your boat frequently so growth should not be a problem.
