New Penn Torque was featured on Trevor Gowdys Monster Fish. Dennis Braid was using it from the surf to catch big Roosterfish in Mexico. He had it on a big 12 footer casting a blue and white Ranger. He used it off a boat as well. Looked good in action.

It was a lot of Gold, he was using what looked to be the largest version of the reel. I would go with the Black one.

And the smaller version. The TRQS5 holds 400 yards of 30 lb. braid, or 290 yards of 50 lb. braid, which should be sufficient for Jersey fishing. And at 19.9 oz., it weighs about the same as a Slammer 460, which should be about perfect.

I saw this show, and the only warning I would add is that the reel shown was a prototype. I haven't seen the final version yet, and very few people have. I'm hoping that some of the sharp edges get softened, and the reel is not quite as blingy. But if it's as good as I think it's going to be, one is going to be going on one of my rods by summer.

The show was produced and edited in 2009, I checked for the date at the end. I was curious. So I am sure it was exactly that, a prototype. If it is possible, it is even more ostentatious then a Gold VS, it is even shinier. It looked liked it whooped a huge 30 + lb Rooster in rough surf. Drag was singing. Looks like it could be a winner.

I saw that episode, but even better I have used them. They are really going to be awesome. The one's I've tried were proto types that my friend at PENN brought on a couple trips we went on. I've used them from boat and from jetty's. They performed well from both. I would probally go with the smaller one from the surf though. The one proto type I tried was bail less. I think they are going to have a kit if you choose to go bail less. I agree with you guys, I like the black one too.
